    Scott,

The answer to your question is not as easy as that. It depends on your source, amplification, and room acoustics.

I have both the LSi9's and Paradigm Studio 40 v2. Both speakers are great for under one grand. However, you need a seperate amp or a really nice receiver to make the LSi's sing. Also, if your room acoustics are harsh like mine (ceramic tile floor) the Pdimes sound a little bright at higher volumes. Now place these puppies in a carpeted room and the story may be different (haven't tried this yet). Right now I like my LSi's better than the Paradigms. I can play music louder with no brightness. However, at lower volumes (75 - 80 db) the Paradigms probably sound better. The brightness is not an issue at lower volumes. I think the imaging and midrange is just a tad bit fuller sounding. Its hard to describe. Its like "presence". The LSi's I've heard are very finicky about placement too. I've been experimenting around with this too.

I'm still breaking in the LSi's though. Just got them this week. In the long run I think they match my room acoustics better than the Paradigms. Funny thing is that at the show room where I bought the Paradigms they had it hooked up to the same amp and cd player that I have but it was a carpet floor with sound deadning anechoic (spelling?) foam hanging on the ceiling and walls. The same paradigms were not bright at all at loud volumes.

To make a long story short, it all depends on your rig, setup, and room acoustics. Believe me, I'm learning the hard way by spending a lot of money (but will end up with a nice stereo for the home office in the long run).

But yes, both the LSi's and Pdime Studio series are very musical speakers in my opinion. I really like the Vifa tweeter a LOT. It is really what makes the LSi's so special even though the midrange may not be up to par with the Studio's midrange. To me the LSi's are not fatiguing to listen to at all.

    Too many variables.
The Moth Cicada sounds great @ $650/pr.

It's been awhile since I've heard LaScalas. They can sound pretty good with the right gear behind them. Very bright and forward sounding. Also very revealing of electronics and wires. If you can get a good looking pair for under a grand it would be quite deal.

    Scott,

Tell us more. What was the amplification? Receiver or seperates? What name brand receiver or seperates?

I've heard Klipsch speakers before and they have a loyal following of fans but you have to be very careful what you mate it with because it can be big time bright sounding. A friend of mine had a Yamaha receiver on some Klipsch and everytime he turned it on his dog would leave the room.

Do those speakers have the horn tweeters? Do they image well?
Sounds like a good deal; I would be investigating some "warm" sounding sources as well.

    Scott,

I wonder if that was the Yamaha MX-1 power amp you got a listen to on the Klipsch? That's a heck of an amp. I've never been able to get a listen to one because they are discontinued and were hard to get / find. One of the best amps that Yamaha has made. From what I've heard though it is not a bright sounding amp at all. Some of the Yamaha products in the past have been fatiguing to listen to though. I think they have turned the corner recently with their newer lines but are still a tad bit brighter than some others out there. I like some treble so that's why I purchased my receiver.

Good luck with your purchase if you decide to get the speakers. I'm sure they will rock your place well.
