I have a pair of those only the tweet is turned the long way on the top. I'm using them for L&R surrounds with my SDA 2.3 mains.

why didn't they just make the tweeter part of the cabinet? I'm sure they sound great, but they are some of the worst looking polks of all time.

Because having the tweeter pulled farther back gives a more even response across the frequency range. High frequency waves, with a shorter wave length, travel faster than low frequencies, with longer wave lengths. Pulling the tweeter back a little bit helps all of the frequencies arrive at the same time.

Also, having the XO's on the top makes them easier to work on and modify.

Personally, I kind of like the way they look.

Fair enough Curt. Just doesn't seem like Polk ever did any with aesthetics, more about sound I guess.

That's part of how they managed to keep their prices down. The aesthetics are really a matter of opinion anyway. I like the way they look myself...they aren't over styled. They're simple.

Polk speakers are big, and they don't apologize for it. Now with everyone being so fussy about decor, they have to make them smaller and more acceptable for the average house. Personally, I think the huge SDA's look awesome. I'd love to have a pair of them in my living room.
