im finding the tweeters on my mmc691s to be a bit too bright for my liking. can i safely just pull the tweeter leads off and run the speaker with the woofer connection only?

I suppose you could always cut the lead but it would sound like crap. Problem is the tweeters output is too high.
The best solution albeit pricey is to buy a 4 channel amp and bi-amp those 6x9's. Run the mids straight off the rear channels and the tweeters off the front channel using the passive crossover that came with them. This way you can adjust the output of the tweeter.polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

i have a 4 channel amp, so i can do that. ill look into that tomorrow and let you know how it goes.
i dont really want to, but i guess i can run my 4x6s off my head unit, rather then the amp. -
If the 6x9's are in the rear then just go ahead and run without the tweeters. Youre not really hearing them anyway.
I was thinking it was a setup like my Dodge Ram where the 6x9's were in the front door.polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005

oh no, these are in a 69 corvette, and theyre located right behind my head.
ill still try bi amping them and see how they sound. -
Does the mm 691's xover have a tweeter attenuation switch? I know my momo 691's didnt. If so flip it to -3/-6 whatever is the min and then see if it makes a diff.
Bi-amping would give you greater control like mac said -
mmcs are the momos. and i see i was wrong in the model number, it should have been mmc690.

Ya I misquoted the number as well. I still have mine still installed, but they are long disconnected. Yes the tweets on it are bright.
Even if you bi-amp them and attenuate the tweet, they will still over power your 4x6 fronts.
Here's a possible solution, bring the 6x9 in kick box upfront and take the 4x6 back. Then bi-amp the 6x9 and run the 4x6 off the hu........ -

i cant do that, 4x6s are a damn tight fit as it is.
i havnt been able to get out there and work on this today, as its been looking like rain all day. maybe this weekend i can work on it. -
so its second amp, or get rid of second tweets..Polk MM6501 kick panels, Eclipse cd7200mkll and SW9122 Bomb Box, Cadence A4, A7, CAP5, JL8W3V3

See if you can mod this kick panel to take the 6x9. Ideally you shouldnt run rears, in case you do, the more powerfull speaker should always be upfront. Better staging and presentation.
You dont listen to your home audio with your back to it. By keeping the 6x9 at the back, your sound would flow from the rear, it should be from upfront. -
actually... i do do listen to my home audio with my back to it. i run it in 2x stereo.
as to moding the kick panels to make it fit, not a possibility. i mean, unless i cut some nice big holes in my fenders and have half the speaker out side the car. -

Cool then keep the 6x9 at the back, bi-amp them and run the front 4x6 off the hu and you'll feel right at home...lol
If you want to keep both sets amped then just pull the tweet on the 6x9 like mac said. -
was only kidding arun, if u took that personally or sompin, talkin bout my soulmate.. what about us man!?Polk MM6501 kick panels, Eclipse cd7200mkll and SW9122 Bomb Box, Cadence A4, A7, CAP5, JL8W3V3

finally got it all set up. i bi amped the 6x9s off my xtant a4004, and ran the 4x6s off my head unit, a cda-9815 (the V-link with 27wRMS per channel)
ive got 2 things to say.
1. it sounds great
2. its loud as hell
thanks for the help guys. -
sweet! so more control over tweeter helped, eh? turn gain down? sounds like a nice amp. how much powewr 40x4?Polk MM6501 kick panels, Eclipse cd7200mkll and SW9122 Bomb Box, Cadence A4, A7, CAP5, JL8W3V3

ya, i turned the gains way way down on the tweeters. the amps rated at 50x4 @ 4ohm, 100x4 @ 2ohm, and 200x2 bridged @ 4ohm.
-
word! oh yeah, they must b lovin that! u have a LPF on mids? curious since not using crossover..tweets sound nice though huh? imagine louder and clearer, easier on ears?Polk MM6501 kick panels, Eclipse cd7200mkll and SW9122 Bomb Box, Cadence A4, A7, CAP5, JL8W3V3

i havnt set the lpf yet. i didnt have time this evening, and ive got a cruise early tomorrow morning. ill probably set it some time this week.
and yes, much much louder, much cleaner, andm uch easier on the ears. it doesnt hurt to listen to it at all anymore.
the tweeters are finally set just how i like them. theyre there, theyre supplying a good sound, but theyre not over bearing or piercing. -
awsome! u mean lpf on amp?Polk MM6501 kick panels, Eclipse cd7200mkll and SW9122 Bomb Box, Cadence A4, A7, CAP5, JL8W3V3

i could go with either the amp or the HU, they both have one. ill probably go with the amp though, just because its easier.
-
they both have bandpass(hpf and lpf)?? isn't hu kinda easier??Polk MM6501 kick panels, Eclipse cd7200mkll and SW9122 Bomb Box, Cadence A4, A7, CAP5, JL8W3V3
-
eh... ones a knob, the others some buttons and a dial. im lazy, therefore just turning the knob is easier.
-
lol thats funny but isnt it easier to set or tune it from your seat on HU(one value or the other)? also tuning amp is so tedious 2 me(a hair up a hair down..). u have bandpass on HU AND amp??Polk MM6501 kick panels, Eclipse cd7200mkll and SW9122 Bomb Box, Cadence A4, A7, CAP5, JL8W3V3

im looking through manuals right now.... im just starting to use filters more, so im still learning as i go on this part.
amp has
front channel - full/LPF/HPF
rear channel - full/LPF
HU has
HPF and LPF settings for low range speakers, mid range, and high range.
