Rti8 vs Rti10
I go round and round on what is better. I currently have Rti8 for fronts and r50s for surrounds...Im wndering should i get another pair of Rti8s and add to surrounds or get rti10s, and push my currents Rti8s back...I have an 706 Onkyo, which I love and use all stereo...oh and my center is Csi3...I like discussing Rtis and best combo..help or insight? Thanks

Keep the RTI 8's up front and get a pair of fxi series speakers for the rear or even the rti 4/6's will do.

I had my 8's as rears for a while and was pretty blown away by the sound. If I coulda left them there I would've.

I need some surrounds and I can pick up some rti8's from a friend for about the same as the polk ebay fxi4's. I'll find out when my couch arrives today whether the room can accommodate them. If so, I'd be pretty happy with the setup of front rti10's, center csi3, surround rti8's. Then I wouldn't have to worry about speaker stands or wall mounting as well.

u got it DJC. I know few experts here don't like the floorstanding for surround and I have a different opeion. If space is not an issue, go w/ rti10, Rti8 and CSi

For what it's worth, I prefer the RTi8's to the RTi10's. The 8's just have a better sounding mid-range...the 10's, due to only having one mid-range driver, sound a lot more withdrawn in the mids, and they end up sounding a lot brighter due to that.
The bass out of the 10's isn't really that much more impressive than the 8's either for that matter. If you're using a sub, it should make no difference whatsoever. According to Polk, the 10's only dig about 5 hz deeper at -3db. 40hz @ -3db in the RTi8's and 35hz @ -3db in the RTi10's. That's not a very big difference...especially if you're using a sub. You're not even going to perceive the added bass output when using a sub.
This is just my opinion...some people love their 10's, but I'll take 8's over 10's any day.The nirvana inducer-

Thanks you guys for all the info...Alright, this is what I have going thus far. I bought an nr807 onkyo, and going Audyssy DSX. Anyway, current config is rti8 fronts, rti8 wides, r50 surround. Csi3 center. Im still tweaking, but I think Audyssy has it right with the wides at 60 degrees from center... It is addicting, I don't think I'm going to go High yet. Would going to csi5, be a leap, or just marginal upgrade. Oh, didn't mention the 12inch BostonAc sub. If you guys have a chance, DSX is killer

my understanding nr807 has burr brown http://www.onkyousa.com/model.cfm?m=TX-NR807&class=Receiver&p=d

I've never really understood the design of the RTi10's compared to the RTi8's or the newer RTiA7's compared to the RTiA5's. I would have expected that Polk would keep the two midranges of the lower model and add a woofer to the higher model, but not substitute a midrange for a woofer. I would love to hear the explanation on that one.
Well at least they got it right with the RTi12's and RTiA9's.
I'd have to agree. I think they should have used two 6.5" MW's on the RTi10's, and used only one of the 7" woofers instead of two.
Another good option would have been to use the MTM array from the 12's with the two 5.25" MW's and single tweeter in-between, with a single 7" woofer.
Plenty of people enjoy their 10's/A7's, but they just don't sound balanced to my ears.
On that note, I think it would have been cool if the RTi8's/A5's would have been designed with a MTM array, instead of TMM.
I'm sure Polk has their reasons though. The nirvana inducer-

Can't say I have heard the 8's, but I dragged my 'dormant' 10's out the other day and gave them a run with some Green Day, Genesis, Lily Allen etc. Given the right power (Emo MPS2) and the fact I utilised zone 2 on my Denon, there is no shortage of bass (no sub utilised either). Zone 2 gives you the option of bass and treble settings, which when tweaked to my satisfaction, I could live with the 10's - no issues at all.
On the flip side, when I hooked them up as the mains with no adjustment and Pure Direct, they were harsh as opposed to the LSi9s in the same configuration. It has renewed my interest in the 10's again, in a 2 channel set up - never thought I'd say that after acknowledging that the 10's to me appear better as an HT speaker. Horses for courses I suppose.
Ciao for now.Regards - Gaz from the land of Oz

Yeah my two cents on the reason that polk made the tens this way: with only one midrange driver, is that they are meant to be used primarily as home theater speakers. It seems that when your fronts can more fully produce the whole spectrum of sound they blend better with the sub in movies so explosions and loud noises seems to be more natural and not just coming from one place. To me this seems to be the logical explanation for their design. However, as an owner of the rti10s I can tell you that with some external power they sound pretty nice in a two channel setup. They are phenomenal as home theater fronts though....HOME AUDIO:

I'm a upgrading moron. I can't leave well enough alone. does anyone know if rti10 and 8s can blend well, or am I better off just keeping 8s accross the board? Im rethinking the csi5 too. Is it too much for the rti8s front? I know this sounds lame, but I want to get exactly right, then enjoy for many years. How long could these rtis last?

RTi8s do blend with RTi8. If u hav space and budget, u can go for RTi12 with 8s as surrounds.
If you want to listen to RTi8s with CSi5, PM me ur email and u can listen to them at my place..
CSi5 matches well with either RTi10 or RTi8 and CSi5 is not too much for 8s.

Hey Vijay, thanks for the heads up. My csi5 is on its way.=) Anyway, I appreciate you letting me know that it does blend. 12s I heard are very power hungry even for my onk. SO you have the 5 eith the 8's, huh? Man, that center is beast; it is huge
