I have heard both the original I-sonic and the IES 2, and what I can say is that they both sound pretty damn good for a table top radio. They both had impressive bass (for a radio), and overall full sound. HD radio is free, so you don't need to worry about that.

The Polk iSonic 2 only plays iPods, no CD/DVD player. I have one, and it is okay. It is bascially a clock radio. Don't believe the Polk marketing of "room filling sound". Maybe the hall closet.

It is made from flimsy plastic, and I had to reinstall some of the push buttons on top after I received mine.

Other than the iPod, I have not used the radio, standard or HD. HD radio is free.

Personally, I feel the $350 price is a bit to high for the quality of construction, and "room filling sound".

The I-sonic 2 has composite and s-video outs, which allows you to play videos from your ipod when its docked. Its probably going to be harder to find and I-sonic 1, so I would suggest you go with the I-sonic 2. They sound almost identical, and if you really want to play dvd's or cd's through it, there is an aux input on the back.
