Hey folks!

I currently own a DSW Pro 500 and after testing it for a few days, I find that this sub is not up to my expectation. My HT room is about 300 sq ft and thinking of upgrading it to an SVS, HSU or Epic but not really sure which model to get. Any suggestion for my upgrade? I am thinking anything below $800 and probably used instead of new.

Anyone had experience with these subs I mentioned, please throw in your 2 cents. Thanks!

    Jolax,

I'm in a similar position as well. I'm pretty certain I will be buying the NEW PB10-NSD or PB12-NSD from SVS. They are both on sale right now. Not sure about the comparison, but Freddy (kawizx9r) told me to look at SVS. From the reviews, I heard they are great SUBS at a great price. I have a PSW125 and Freddy keeps telling..this sub will kick my current sub in the **** and then run circles around it ;)

    PB10-NSD I think would be $500 shipped, and PB12-NSD is $628 shipped.

I would prolly go with the 12 inch. I think 10 inch is just not enough juice to make your heart thump. Anyway, what about their cylindrical sub versus the box one. which one is better?

I did some research on their cylindrical subs and heard nothing but great things. It's obviously different than a boxed subwoofer, but I think that thing is just too tall for me and my room.

The decision is yours, but I've been doing my research only on SVS and it looks like people choose their products because of their customer service. Pretty much offering a great subwoofer while backing it up with their customer service. Can't really ask for more.

I would wait on responses from other polkies, I'm not one for giving our advice, just opinions.

Haven't hooked up the XPA-5 yet, but will be in a couple of weeks. I'm in the "fast-pace" buying home theater stuff. Just bought a TV stand and an Audio stand that should be arriving at my house in a week. Then, I gotta take measurements for my speaker wire, going to buy from Signal Cables.

When I do hook up, trust me, there will be pictures! As for selling the XPA-5, :(. I don't think I am. You can go on Emotiva's forum (The Eporium" or something like that. People sell their amps for pretty good prices) In fact, I think someone is selling a SVS Subwoofer for $700 shipped

Best bang for your buck go with Epik. $800 you could get the Epik Sentinel.

I would say all things would be better on the plus ;)

As far as boxed and cylinder versions go, the cylinder is a more appropriate approach if youre wanting to save some space but still get that quality svs sound. I havent heard both of them side by side to compare, but can tell you that the cylinder versions get low, and deep while providing some amazing output. Coming from a friend, his opinion is that boxed subs (of the same type/etc) have more weight in their bass and tend to pound harder as opposed to their cylinder version, but they dont reach as low of a frequency at the same output. Like I said, those cylinders get LOW.

Have not heard the subs you are asking about. They all have good reps but if I were you I would look into getting a Sunfire True sub. Several are out on eBay right now below your budget.

Sunfire True Sub MK II or MK IV are in a pretty good price range right now. I just missed getting a MK II about a week ago for $360 on Ebay. The MK II's have been going for about $500 in the last month. The MK IV's are going to be a bit more. Both have the same spec's but the MK IV's have a few upgrades to the amp. Pricing has been way down on them and there has been quite a few on the market.

It is really hard to beat a 2700 watt sub that goes down to 18 Hz. I have mine turned all the way down and it still shakes the house.

    thuffman,
But the MKIi is only 8" sub. how would this compare to the SVS or Epic 12" sub? I know the Sunfire has more wattage but with 8" sub, how can it produce enough shake compare to the 12" ones?

I should have some good feedback for you in a few days. I also currently have a DSW Pro 500 and on Saturday, I ordered a new PB12-Plus from SVS. It is scheduled to get here on Wednesday....all 127 pounds of it. I have not heard one and made my decision based on the raving tech reviews and tremendous forum recommendations I read. Will let you know how it works out.

The Sunfire has a active and a passive plus all that power makes it a very powerful producer of base. The SVS and Epic are fine subs but I would not trade in my Sunfire for either.

To give you a feal for my system I have a Carver TFM 55 which puts out 500 wpc into my 4 ohm Carver AL III's speakers. The sunfire has so much power I have it turned almost all the way down to it lowest volume level. If I did not do that it would overshadow my system and shake my house that my stove vibrates and items on shelves fall off.

Hope that helps and anwsers your question.
