first.....i don't know if this is the right forum for turntable questions, but theres a lot of knowledge here,so please help if you will.

the wife picked up an old pioneer pl-600 at the local goodwill this weekend.
it runs, butttttttttttt after playing about a 1/4 of the lp the arm starts skipping across the record. i adjusted the anti skip dial to no avail

i tried several different lp's and it did the same thing on all of them.

also , i am running the t/t thru an onkyo 806,when i switch to the phono mode i get a buzzing noise thru the speakers. doesn't happen in any other mode ,just get the buzzing when i switch to phono.

if this is the wrong forum...my apologies....and please direct me to to the proper forum.....thanks for your help

    Hi chemical,

It sounds like the tone arm lifter is not fully lowered after setting the needle down and the tone arm begins to drag on it part way across the record. Take a close look at it while operating. Also there might be a set screw on the lifter to adjust its height. I had to take my freebie TT into the repair shop for complete lubrication and servicing.

As for the buzzing, do you have the ground wire from the TT connected to the ground connection on the receiver?

Can't comment much regarding TT's but as far as the buzz/hum problem this is the ground he's referring to on a set of cables. SilverTonearm-A.jpg

There should be a thumbscrew on the rear of your receiver to connect your ground to.

have you set up the tone arm to the right tracking force? also called VTF - vertical tracking force. if it's to light.. the arm and needle will skip across the record. also, have you replaced the needle and or cartridge and needle together? on used turntables.. the first thing you should do is replace old warn out needles.
