+1 for the a5... were it not for my affinity to the SDA's I would have a pair in my home. They are elegant to look at and sound fantastic when hit with good clean power...The Gear... yes, these speakers will be used primarily for stereo music listening.would the onk 607 be enough for the monitor 70?if not, what would the effect be?hardware burnout or limp sound output?thanks for the reply's so far

No sure about the a5s or the 70s but i had RTi10s and picked
up a pair of C-500s. The 500s kick **** for 2 channel no idea
how they would be in HT. I have them powered by an adcom
200 wpc amp and they Rock. The best part is i only paid $150.00
each a few months back from World Wide Stereo and they shipped
free. To bad they don't have that deal anymore or i would have a
set in the garage too.

Since you threw the "1/2 price" in the mix, I'd say 70's all the way. I still believe the bargain factor has to be considered.

RTi8's and RTiA5's are essentially the same speakers. The use the exact same drivers and XO's, with a slightly different cabinet geometry. The curved cabinet design of the A5's makes them a little bit more acoustically inert, and helps tame down the brightness a little bit. It also warms up the midrange slightly.
IMO, the Monitor 70's would be a better choice for music, and the RTiA5's would be better for HT.
I have a pair of RTi8's, and I can't stand them for stereo music listening. The tweeters are just way too bright sounding. If brightness is what you crave, they may work, but for me they didn't. I almost never listen to music through them. They're great for HT though. The nirvana inducer-

well, ive gone with energy cf-50's.sorry polk you loose this one.the tsi/monitor line did not cut it for me.i never was very interested in the rti line.after comparing rti to monitor what else can i say.the lsi line is a bit out of my price range.although the lsi's are on my dream list for now i settle.i will say polk makes very well constructed speakers and i respect that.salute

While in the end it was your decision, I think you may have been a bit quick to dismiss the Monitor series. I have Monitor 70's and while they are currently being pushed by my Onkyo TX-SR806 quite well, I can't wait to hear what the sound like with an external amp powering them. The Energy line is made by Klipsch right? At $400 a piece you could have picked up two Monitor 70's at that price. Like I said though it was your decision to make and as long as you are happy, that is all that matters. Good luck and welcome to Club Polk.

With a good receiver or external amp, the Monitor 70's sound better for music in my opinion. I like the RTi A5 for HT.
+1 on M70, as ur more interested in Music.
I wud consider Pio SC-05 or SC-07 or Onk 805/806
