Clipping Gone After Going Active

I am pretty new to the technical side of all this car audio stuff, but you guys can probably provide some insight.
I ran the Polk SR5250 set with the passive crossover originally and ran 150w to them (4 channel amp was bridged to 2 channels to get the 150w). I noticed that once I turned up the volume to a fairly loud level, the clipping indicators would begin to light up somewhat frequently.
When I went active with the same amp and speakers, I noticed that at this same level of volume, the clipping indicators didn't light up at all. The amp was now run in 4 channel mode at 50w to each tweeter and mid.
Is this somewhat surprising, or would this be expected?

Bridging a 4 channel amp makes it work at much closer to its 100% potential so its easier to clip. If youd lowered the gain when it was bridged it wouldve been harder to clip.polkaudio sound quality competitor since 2005
