Hey guys,

Trying to find some cheap but decent stuff for my roomate to get his feet wet, and came across the following combo for $100:

Acoustic Research X-10 Receiver
Acoustic Research CD-04 cd player
Bose Model 21 speakers
Acoustic Research bookshelves.

We don't care about the speakers, i'm going to hook him up with something else.

Anyone know anything about this reciever? I can't find much about it online. Just trying to figure out the actual power ratings in 8 and 4ohm, and whether or not it has pre-outs.

Thanks in advance!
I don't read the newsssspaperssss because dey aaaallllllllll...... have ugly print.

    ^Already found it....

Tells me that it's decently strong for something like this.... i just can't figure out if the thing between the main in/pre-out is removable.

It's about an hour and a half away, so it's not just a simple matter of just going out to look at it. Is that jumper removable?

Seems like a decently beefy unit.... 33lbs. :D It may be powerful enough to drive whatever he wants, but it would be nice to have the option to slap an amp into the mix.

If i were to guess, I'd say it has to be removable. Otherwise, why even put the ports on the back of the receiver? Can you ask/email the seller and see if he will try to pull the jumpers out?

With the older receiver, they usually have the jumper for the Pre-out to the Main Input.

If you don't want to use the lower power main amplifier that came with the receiver, remove the jumper and you can use the external amp with Pre-Out connection.

I've at least 3-4 older units with this jumpers in the back. You can Definitely Remove them and use with external amp.

Sorry but no idea on the power rating for this AR receiver.

You mentioned AR bookshelves and stated you wanted a better speaker. If they are AR-2ax speakers, you'd be hard pressed to find a better speaker that size if the drivers are in good shape. The 2ax is very compairable to the Polk LSI-9.

I don't know what the speakers are, but we just grabbed a set of RT2000Ps for $200 in decent condition. I get the bookshelves if i want them for free. :D

I'd be in a hurry to sell those Bose for at least half the purchase price of the AR components. Knock that price down to $50 paid and you're talking seriously. Not original AR electronics, but nice for the price. The amp and cd plyr are from the 90's.

That's the plan.... neither of us are interested in the Bose speakers, so they'll be craigslist fodder.

Then we might grab him a real amp in another week or so if his Sony Dream System sells for anything decent.

Thanks guys! I'll tell the seller we'll take it. :)
