I love how they mention the best MPH, but not the best E.T...typical Supra owner.

Can't see the vids... but it took over twice the horsepower to trap ~10mph more? :p Probably more like 3 times the horsepower.... this car ran standing mile at low boost if i remember.

I'm not trying to start a Supra pissing match, i don't think they're god's gift to man or anything... i was just amazed at the dyno, and how much power they managed to pull out of a 3.4 litre motor. I'm VERY well aware that higher numbers are out there. Y'all LOVE to overanalyze everything.

    Mmm..... Steak....

Along the same lines as the original subject, though...
How long can that Chevy drag hold 250mph without sustaining engine failure?

I've seen VW turbo AIRCOOLED engines that can produce a 10 sec 1/4 or damn close to it, but it's a "Race-once/Throw-away" drag engine. The Supra however seems to be built for a different type of race.

I don't think you are.... the Supra, as you can see on the video description has had it's motor for quite some time. Upon further research, the 243mph that it hit in the Texas mile was on it's old setup that put down considerably less power. It's been around the block.

Running balls out for 6 seconds is a bit different than seeing some street duty, and running 4 times the distance, plus deceleration and the drive back.

These are usually cars that COULD possibly see street duty. There's videos floating around of the old Boost Logic Supra Texas record holder driving on the street on pump gas E85. These cars don't run huge slicks, they aren't tubbed, they aren't running straight alcohol or anything like that.

Marco whatever his last name was had a completely stock-looing 1520whp white supra, and he drove it on the street many times, and it absolutely ROASTED the quarter mile. The in car videos of that thing were unreal.

But like i said... i appreciate anything fast, i'm no fan boy.

Yes, one is a race car, the other is a Supra, which isn't fit for much but turning the rollers on a dyno while lightening the wallet and artificially increasing the ego of the owner.

The engine in the Chevy could probably last quite long at 250 MPH because if you knew anything about drag racing, you'd know that at the finish line, the car is traveling faster than 250.88 mph. The speed is an average speed over a short distance at the end of the 1/4 mile.

However, not knowing much about Mike Moran's setup because he keeps it pretty under wraps (unlike some people I've dealt with in the past) but he's likely running a 2 speed 'glide and is only halfway through the 2nd gear at the end of the track. That engine is in the meat of it's powerband and with proper cooling, will run much, much longer than you think it will.

The problem with Supras is that they are dyno queens and Face is right. The joke 66chevyIISS posted exists because it mocks a stereotype rooted in reality. The video posted shows a Supra owner impressed and bragging about power numbers and then a 1-mile run top speed. All I posted was videos of a car with considerably more power and 1/4 mile times. It was an illustration of Face's original post.

Supra videos are what happens when kids get access to the Internet. Somebody want to post a video of a Skyline smoking the tires on the dyno rollers? Or how about a Grand National "breaking the dyno"?

Here are some Mustangs and a Buick making similar power to that Supra. No, they are not street legal but given the modifications to that Supra, it's likely not going to pass an emissions test either thereby making it not street legal. Just because you drive it on the street doesn't mean you are allowed to or should be doing it. It just means you haven't gotten caught yet.

One more from Alex to illustrate the speeds. Look at the boards at the end. 7.07 at 210 MPH. That's on drag radials too. D.O.T. approved tires that are legal on the street.

^You have a personal vendetta against supras i take it?

With all that, i'm surprised that a Supra has the Texas Mile record.... Gotta be some reason, right?

You need to realize and stop assuming that i'm talking down anything. I posted a video that i thought was cool. There was no underlying message about "Supras are the best and fastest and most powerfullest car evarrr!!!!" No "Domestics SUCK."

This car, if you look at the dyno plot, actually has a powerband, unlike most bigass single turbo Supras. (Wanna race from a roll?!?!? :p )

Geeze, Jstas... You really know how to word a sentence in the friendliest of fashions, mate, regardless if intent. Because emotion tends to be unreadable over the internet without being blatant of intention, let me just say that I'm curious, not pretending to hide behind a keyboard and 'know-it-all', so if I'm wrong about anything, please educate me; I'd rather be right next time such a topic comes up than look like a fool twice. Besides entertainment, that's what forums are generally for, I think.

What I do know about drag racing (which admittedly is very little due to having no true interests in it) is that essentially you are attempting make a car go fast, fast. The highest speed in the shortest time, no?
This kind of engine set up wouldn't be applicable in a top-speed race.

For example, the Chevy we were first talking about would smoke the current holder of land speed records in the 1/4 mile. The Thrust SSC was only doing 100mph or so in it's first quarter. However, by the end of it's run it was averaging 766mph. But would most likely burn up and be useless if it attempted to run the same 20 mile run at full throttle, right?

Cars are built differently for different purposes is what I was implying. My question was if the Chevy and the Supra were built for the same thing? If not, you can't compare them against one another... It would be, like Concealer said, Apples to Steak...

As far as the quality of build, I've read many critical bits and pieces favoring anything but a Supra in performance. I'm not in the market for one, and if I had the money, I'd be looking for a car with a much higher value for my tastes... It seems they have a following and the numbers for the DYNO seem pretty impressive. I think that was the point in the first place.

I think it was probably the worst ride I've ever experienced.:D But the car had some major cool factor. Which made up for it in the end. I wish it wouldn't have been raining so maybe we could have carved up some backroads... I was dying to see how it handled.
