Here's a thread I started a little while back, if you read the comments others left below you'll gain some need-to-know stuff and what to look for. Definitely helped me out, running now a Panamax 5100Max power conditioner. Why go halfway with a surge protector as opposed to spending a little more for better peace of mind and clean power? You're more likely to lose gear due to brown-outs/etc as opposed to lightning killing your equipment. And even then, you'll still lose something if that were to happen. If the storms are REALLY bad I just unplug some equipment.

Regarding that surge protection, it will probably work as a surge protector, but we will have to look at the internals to see what kind of power filtering it can do.
I am currently using Belkin PF60 (I have seen refurbs at Factory Direct for 199 a while ago), and that one uses some decent power filters and surge protection.Panasonic PT-AE4000U projector for movies
