Actually, No. The cold air return is right behind the cabinet. The HVAC fan is always on, thus sucking the air from in there. The only piece that gets warm is the cable box but we are renting it so if it dies I'll get a new one. My rears are on their backs facing the ceiling until I can find a way to run the cable through the ceiling. There is no insulation so it's easier, I'll just need to run a snake. Maybe this fall.

Very impressive. One thing I'd do, get some of the white split-wire loom and cover the black wires to the towers. Also, paint the walls darker...;)

Thanks Ron. I'll look into that. I could run most of the cables behind the wall as the other side is unfinished/laundry room. That's how I can the sub cable and the network cable to the PS3. I'd like the walls a bit darker but it was just painted last year. Can I buy that white split-wire loom at HD?

    fans!!!

Not much room for those, as mentioned above the HVAC air intake is right behind the cabinet and the back of the cabinet has a big gap of about a foot, so the hot air gets suck in by the fan.

Yep, HD has it, in the electrical section where they typically have all the wire connectors / nuts and such.

    +1 that's what matters.

But since you ask;) probably first would be room treatments.
Then the wall and TV stand look like they are just pleading for a larger TV. I have the same TX42 PX77U and love it (just wish I could have afforded larger).
    Then maybe a different sub.

Of course this is all without knowing what it sounds like and how big your room is so it really doesn't mean much:)

What I would like to do is wall mount the TV, buy a CSi5 and have it sit on the top of the cabinet and move some gear on the top shelf where the current CSI3 sits. This would free up some space and add some breathing room. The only issue is that as mentioned the cold air intake is right behind the TV. I don't think I should run any cables in that shaft?

I looked at your setup last night while in the showcase. I like it, looks very nice and clean. If you're looking to spice it up, some art or nice trees would liven up the room. A little color could never hurt but that's totally up to what you'd like to achieve. As the others mentioned, its a nice setup. If you're looking to spend some bucks buy a bigger sub. ;)

The family room is 13'2" x 16'4". So we are about 11' from the TV as you it was $$ that determined the size at the time. A new sub is on my list of eventual upgrades.

So what I'm getting so far is that placemnt and such is good, I should add some more decor/ room treatments on the wall behind the TV? And to find a way to take better pics with that Camera. I'll post pics of the back wall.

I think so. As far as location of room treatments I think that depends on the room/sound and what you are trying to improve. But the wall around the TV could use something in the line of decor, pictures, plants as others suggested. This is where I put the wife too work. She is better at that than me, and it helps her be a part of the HT, which in turn helps me with the WAF and spending.:D

Mounting the TV on the wall will completely change the look of the front wall, I'd hold off on any other treatments until you see how it looks. Too many wall treatment near a TV can be very distracting also.

beside a CSi5 and a new sub nothing. Everything has been upgraded a couple times over. I think it maybe the room that is missing something as others have pointed out.

Good point. As mentioned I'm not sure if I can run the cables up the cold air return.

Otherwise, sonically, it appears you have things situated pretty well. I would suggest moving out your towers about 2 inches into the room. I would then experiment with "toe in" by pointing the speakers to where they are facing straight out into the space (no toe in) - and work from there. This should improve your soundstaging. Otherwise, things look pretty good.

Move them out away from the wall? ok I see, I shall try that. I was trying to have it look symetrical but I'll experiement with that.

And thank you all for the comments/suggestions thus far. Much appreciated

Was something already mentioned about your center and I missed it? Room looks clean. (would be nice if you could move the sub off your front wall - that is the only think that looks out of place.)

Other than that - Do you pull your center out a ways when you watch movies? That is my biggest concern (from just looking anyway) it looks recessed in your cabinet and that is just not right. I would want the front edge of your center sticking at least 1/2" out from the cabinet when watching a movie.

Other than that - looks great.

There is moulding that stops the centre from being right at the edge but it's darn near close. As for the sub, I just don't know where else to put it.
