I watched this thing and thought, cool, cheap surrounds. Checked the guys feedback, looked good (I know it **** know, but before the last month it was 260+ or so)

Anyway the usual scam take the money, send no product.
The extra frustration here is, Paypal says:
"Our investigation has determined that the seller is at fault, but we were unable to recover any funds from the seller's account."
I used Amex to fund the Paypal, Amex says: "Sir that is a third party biller, we cannot ...." whatever she said, the jist is they are not backing me on this one.

I'm in Phoenix.......How far away is Munds Park?

I've heard the same thing from my credit card companies, that if you use PayPal or C2it or anything like that, they won't consider that a 'valid' charge and therefore won't file it as fraud. BS in my opinion.

Lemme know if you have any address information for the guy........

EDIT: I checked Mapquest and it's about 130 miles north of me. I sent him an email asking if he had a store that I could check out his merchandise in and am waiting for a response. I used one of his positive auctions to email him, so we'll see if he responds. Tell me if you got any sort of contact information for him though.....

Yes the guy was good, he built up a back log of good feedbacks (260+) then dropped the hammer on many many people.

thank you for sharing this information, I did several purchases from ebay merchants using exactly the same method of payment as you did. For the same assumption that paypal and amex would stand behind me, if anything goes wrong....now I know. Curious if it crosses your mind before you bid, that the price of NIB LSiFx is from $570 to $699, and this one is way cheaper, did you make contact with the seller before bidding? (more on understanding how he managed to have the speaker at that price, and also on warranty coverage)? thanks...

My email here at work is up and down (more down then up).

Well I have received some emails from other people who have been stung by these people. They are lone gone from Arizona and are in Colorado. They have used many usernames, address's, bank accounts and such, they have stolen nearly $ 250,000.00.

This seems to be bigger than what you and or I can do. Would I press charges, not likely for 450.00, would I pay someone 450.00 (or more) to reach out and touch this guy, oh yea.

polkatese, I made no contact before bidding, yes I had that little guy on my shoulder saying "this is too good to be true", but I guess it has been a while since I was ripped off the last time (350.00, paypal cash transfer) and I was dumb, I actually ran up on this auction very late and made one sniper bid at the end (lucky me I won) I did not use my experience at all on this one, I saw there was no reserve, great feedback, and said eff it, if it goes bad good ol Amex will be there. Live and learn.

Just curious, but where did you get all that info from? Has Ebay shut them down or what?

I emailed some of the people how had neg. feedback to these guys, I got an email from one of them that had an excell speadsheet listing the auctions, buyers, amounts and such, a cut and paste of emails from the police detective on the case telling people of what to do. I have emailed the detective so maybe I will hear from him, do not have much hope.

See if you can get at them thru small claims court in Arizona. It might be possible to do some things without travel. But if it comes to that, a lovely state AZ is.

Also contact the local DA for Munds Park, and the state Att Gen. Ditto for CO if they are there now. And don't forget the FBI. If these folks ran to another state, and set up shop again, that falls under them.

If you've networked with other victims, split up the work load and go get them a$$-holes. And when one of your team hits on the right bandwagon, you all can jump on it, and the rip-off folks necks...

It seems that the frequency of crooks' sightings has increase quite a bit recently. There is a case also on audiogon, with handle name Titan, that also had swindled people. In the recent case, he sold a Rotel amp to a couple of people, one got a box of bricks!

A woman accused by Coconino County sheriff's officials of bilking more than 540 people from across the country of more than $240,000 through the Internet trading company eBay, and the company's subsidiary PayPal, turned herself in to Wisconsin authorities Monday. Nancy Dreksler, 23, is in the custody of the Walworth County Sheriff's Department in Elkhorn, Wisc. According to officials at the sheriff's office, she is being held on forgery charges, and she has five "hold for others" from five other counties in Wisconsin for crimes she is accused of committing. Her husband, Michael Dreksler, 32, was found dead Thursday in one of the Flagstaff vehicles -- an apparent suicide -- in Colorado by detectives from the Coconino County Sheriff's Office. "Her intent was to take her child or children back and turn herself in," said Detective Bruce Cornish of the Coconino County Sheriff's Office. Cornish said Nancy has family in Wisconsin, and she was told to go to Wisconsin from Colorado by her husband. "He told her to do that," Cornish said, adding that Nancy did not know her husband was dead when she turned herself in. Officials at the sheriff's office said the couple rented a home in Munds Park in October 2002. From that time until a California man filed a complaint with the sheriff's office that he had been the victim of fraud, the couple used eBay to buy items using a PayPal account on which they stopped payments, and to ostensibly sell DVDs and electronic equipment they never shipped to the people who bought it. As of Friday, Cornish had compiled a list of 544 victims from all over the country -- California, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Montana, Virginia and more. The scams were for as little as $26 and as much as $5,600. The total money taken during the Munds Park operation has surpassed $110,000 and continues to grow. The account the Drekslers used for the eBay scam was called "mylittle1s" and contains $240,000 worth of transactions. Investigators with the sheriff's office said the scam was two-fold and covered buying and selling items over the Internet. eBay would be used to post items to sell, rake in money and never send the items. PayPal would be used to buy items, pay for the items using PayPal and once the items were en route, stop payment. eBay specializes in the buying and selling of a variety of items. PayPal lets users with an e-mail address to send and receive payments over the computer. Investigators from Las Vegas and Mesa were also searching for the couple, suspecting them in similar scams.

Tour2ma, No it is not through Ebay, When Ebay locked his ID, and I could not even leave this guy a bad feedback, I started emailing people that left a bad feedback, I got this "form" that one of them had created. You fill in your date, money lost, auction item number, contact info and such, and you were added to the "list" of suckers this guy stole from. This list was updated everyday and sent to the investigator at Coconino County Sheriff's Office.

I was joking that my loss was my paid subscription.

Sorry madmax001, I did not go through Indiana.

It is harder than you might think to make it look like "an apparent suicide".
