Just hooked up a new to me pair of Monitor 7s in the two channel rig.

Haven't gotten any serious listening in yet, but first impressions are HIGHLY impressive.

I believe these have the SL2500s, it's a gold dome tweeter. Cabinets are in pretty good shape, and they're sealing perfectly.

I wasn't expecting anything like this. I was expecting similar to my VS-25s, with slightly more low end extension. I was totally wrong. The midrange is FAR better, and they have a TON of slam.... easily able to pressurize my whole room.

I'm not sure i like the tweets.... they start to get a bit harsh at really high volumes, and i think one of them may be on the way out. But hey... what better way to start my first speaker project? RDOs, crossovers, and maybe refinish the cabs?

I'll get pics up this week, and you guys can tell me exactly what i have.

Well... i seem to be hitting a wall already... i can find endless threads about modding 5Bs, even monitor 10s, but i haven't been able to find anything on the 7s? I just looked through 15 pages of threads, and nothing.

Anyone have any good links on hand, or any info at all? I'd like to buy all the stuff Friday and then get to work on them early September when i have more time and space to really tear into something.

Modding 5b's and Monitor 7's should be very similiar. They both sport one tweeter and one mid driver.

It's the same as modding 5's. The 7's just have a larger PR and cabinet volume. Same design, etc. Pull the x-overs and compare to the schematic, buy the parts, swap the parts and enjoy. You won;t regret it.

On a budget, I'd recommend Clarity Caps (either PX or the more expensive SA line) and Mundorf or Mills resistors. No need to replace the inductors.
