I've been driving my Speed3 for a couple weeks now. What a blast this thing is to drive. The car just goes where you want it to and it does it like 'right now'. I'm so much more confident weaving through traffic with this car. See an upcoming turn late, no problem. This car handles it.

The only things I'm not liking about the car are the noise levels and the quality of the stock stereo system. Compared to my Passat, this car is incredibly loud. Not just the exhaust, but road noise, drivetrain noise, etc. I will be looking into adding some sound dampening to the hatch area and the doors. I've read that a certain brand/formula of gear lube will quiet down my tranny/differential.

The stereo needs help though. I will probably be sinking some time and money into that over the next few months. Nothing crazy, just some decent component speakers in the doors, a modest amp, and a small sub.

Here are some pictures I took after detailing the car the other day. I spent half the day washing the car, and going over the paint with a clay detailing bar, followed by a nice coat of 3M performance finish (wax).

If you've never used a clay bar, I highly recommend trying one. If you are like me, I like a smooth to the touch finish. Newer car waxes do not have the polishing abrasives like old car wax did. So, these days, a wax coat will not leave the finish smooth like the old school waxes did. The clay bar helps here by removing all those fine particles that are embedded in the paint, but it is non abrasive, so it doesn't leave swirl marks. Its very easy to use. You just spray on a lubricant and rub the clay back and forth over small sections at a time. Then wipe off the excess lube and move on to the next section. I did the whole car in less than 90 minutes.

I just can't get used to the front end on the 2010 cars. It looks too much like a smiley face and reminds me of those clay-mation cars that the Chevron ads were using. Chassis/engine wise, there were no real changes to the car. The interior is quite different though. I do like the way they redesigned the rest of the car. Its really just that lower portion of the front end.

LOL! You're right. And with the sloped headlamps, it looks like a STONED smile:eek::p

billw, we need more pic's of the interior; dash, console, etc.

That's a nice looking VW; I've never heard of the R32 trim / package. What was different about it?
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

It was a 'rally car' package. All wheel drive, more HP, better handling, Recaro seats, different body trim, etc.

Pablo, I really dug the R32 back then. I still remember sitting in one at the car show thinking how fun it would be to drive.

This is what the dash and steering look like. I thought I had more on photobucket, but I don't. I'll upload some others tonight.

Wow, your Speed3 looks amazing! I'll have to look into a clay bar at some point.

Yes, the R32's are quite awesome. I'd love to have one of them as well. Awesome VR6, great sounding dual exhaust, great looking wheels, all wheel drive, very supportive Recaro seats (for driver and passenger), and a 6-speed manual tranny. What a blast that would be.

It was a blast to drive!!! Like someone said it was a heavy car, but it didn't feel like it. The exhaust note is to die for... The interior was perfect, comfortable and ergonomic. The best OEM steering wheel I've ever had on my hands. I truly miss it!
Oh, and only 5000 built for the US.

Ok, 1 month and I can't stand the OEM stereo. It gives me a headache after 10 minutes of listening. Dropped a few hundred and have some upgrades in the works.

PPI 356cs component set (think A/D/S re-badge), a used Audison SRx3 amp, Dayton RS HO 10" sub and misc parts all on their way. I'll be getting about 100 sq ft of sound deadening too. Just haven't decided what kind yet. Should come in under $600 for the whole project.

That's not the music I listen to, nor the way my system will be tuned. You wouldn't even hear it outside the car. I don't force my musical taste on others and can't stand when others do that.

Good man. Are your upgrades easily installable; i.e. swap out the old, in with the new? I have a Mazda3S and have thought of upgrading the stereo.

Not really easy swaps. There are some drop in replacement speakers (infinity reference), but the ones I bought will need an adapter plate and some work to fit. The rest is all custom.
