hi i just bought a DEH-P7450MP deck for my new lancer. i dont know much about car audio but i paid $600 for the deck and am told its worth $1100...can someone tell me if this is a good deal?
im about to buy some speakers and was under the impression that they cost about $200 for good ones. ive been told its a waste of a good deck if i buy average speakers so i should spend $400-$500...true? Anyhows i keep getting completely opposite advice from friends so im a little confused. Can anyone recommend GOOD speakers to buy in the sydney area? Hopefully around the $300 mark. THANKS

OK, this will be difficult because you are from Austrailia it seems. I would have gathered that thought because th Pioneer DEH-P7450MP is not available here in the USA. I did see one importer selling it but he wanted only 350 USD for it which is about 600 AUD.

However, the bunk about wasting a good deck with crappy speakers is BS. It's the other way around. A good deck is important, don't get me wrong. However, you listen to the speakers so your weak point will always be your speakers. Good ones cost money. You can get away with a cheaper deck if you get a quality amplifier and good speakers.

Since you already have the head unit, go with it. I do not know how different the Lancers are in Oz nor do I know what year car you have. I looked at a U.S. reference and the Lancers came with a 4 or 6 speaker system and to properly address your concerns, I would need to know that information. Possibly speaker sizes too.

I'm also wondering if you have Polk Audio dealers in Austrailia? If not, how did you stumble upon this site? Just curious really. However, if we are going to be able to give you any more help, we need to get more info about your car from you. Also, what are the goals you are looking to accomplish with your stereo and what kind of music do you like to listen to?

ok thanks a lot. i have a 1996 lancer and i there arent any speakers already in the doors or at the back, only two built in ones on the dash...i think. As for this website...i went to a search engine and search only aussie pages and this was the first one that came up...so i guess i just assumed it was for everyone. Thanks for the advice tho ill check out the other webpage!

Well, it is for everyone, I was just trying to let you know that alot of the experience here is with American market automotive vehicles so we may not be able to help you out with vehicle specific stuff. General audio stuff is applicable to all cars so this a good source for that.

Unfortunatly though, we did not get the Lancer here in 1996. We got a car that was built on the same platform but it was called a Mirage and it is defintly not a Lancer. So I don't have any info on what would fit your car. If you have questions in general, please do not be afraid to ask. I'm sure anyone here would help where they can.

    ** sarcasm **

"Just get a DD 9917 ... that's a universal speaker... u can fit that anywhere..."
(in the voice of a circuit city kid who is sure caps are made with sand).

"we'll install it something like this -- with this strategically placed port and run it free air"
