I know it's not a new release, but we just watched it. Wish I could hit the rewind button and get my time back. What a POS!.

I just recently re-watched this movie. Saw it in theaters when it came out. Hated it then.

This time around, I started rooting for **** Mc-Badguy... suddenly it becomes a much better movie. Plus everyone that dies is pretty damn stupid...

Alright, maybe POS is a bit harsh. Still, I will say I wish I had watched a different movie.

I kind of have to go with Xcapri on this.

The film is a bit plodding at first but it depicts a time of unscrupulous robber barons and an amoral battlefield of combat for PROFIT...remind anyone of anything? There is much here that is not really that 'fictional'. Its distaste can be attributed to the fact that it unnerves those that think 'history' is not full of nastiness and evil.

A century or so from now..people will be doing our history and it might seem just as distasteful at certain levels.

The ending isn't for EVERYONE....but if you've gotten the main point of the film the ending is classic....sick but classic!

I thought it sucked pretty hard. Maybe Im not evolved enough to get all the underlying meanings and artistic flair. To me it had some good action scenes but was just damn depressing and after watching Tommy Lee Jones whine and moan like a little **** thru the whole thing and the stupid **** ending I was ready to hang myself.

Id give it a 2 out of 10.

I'm amazed at some of the comments here.
"'No Country" is IMO, the best film I have seen in quite awhile. Certainly deserving of the oscars it won. I understand that the Coen Bros. are not for everyone but they have made some brilliant films and this one is one of their best. The acting from the entire cast is amazing. Tommy Lee, and Javier Bardem are absolutely brilliant and this is probably Josh Brolin's best film ever. The cinematography is exceptional and they portray the period with uncanny accuracy. It's one of those movies that is engaging every time I watch it. I was still thinking about this film for days after I saw it in the theater.
Some people just don't like a film that requires you to think. I understand that. Frankly, I thought this movie had something for everyone.
I have never read the book, but friends tell me it's fantastic.

Just an opinion, but I though it was one of the best movies made in the last 10 years. I can see why some didn't care for it, because it didn't follow the canned Hollywood formula for drama movies. But thats why I liked it so much....you really had no idea where it was going, and in the end, the "bad guy" actually "won" for once. Any movie that can keep your attention with no real soundtrack to speak of must be a pretty compelling story...

+1. I appreciated the acting and cinematography the first time. But the second time I saw it, the story was more cohesive.

I think it was very well done. If you didn't like it the first time, for reasons other than the extreme violence, I recommend giving it another shot.

He was in pretty rough shape after the car crash and he couldn't go to a hospital.

Seems to me that fate or karma finally caught up with him and he wasn't in as much control as he thought he was!

Perhaps the sheriff really won but didn't know it.

That is the beauty of the film.

    How did the sheriff win?
I should have clarified that in your typical movie ending, he would have been caught or shot by the sheriff, and Llewelyn and Carla Jean would have escaped alive. But I guess nobody won, except for the guy at the gas station who correctly called "heads".

Just watched this tonight...I see here that it has gotten some mixed reactions (coming down strong on either side). Unlike most films -- the vast majority of films out there -- this once is going to be kicking around in my mind for days. There's no easy answers or explanations which makes me feel that its a lot more realistic (in an indirect sort of way) than most typical Hollywood fare.

Aside from the character development, I just found the setting plain intoxicating...Texas, mobile homes, grinding poverty, small town gas stations and police forces, 1980. I was totally transported (and this is from someone whose lived on either coast my whole life).

Its not like I fell in love with this movie at first sight, but I know I'll want to see it again...and maybe a third time and more. Even if I didn't love it, I'd have to say it qualifies as an excellent film.

Oh, and the acting was indeed excellent...all the way around.

I watched this some time ago and found it a very powerful movie. I'm not a big fan of the story, especially the ending, but I do think it is a very compelling viewing experience.

Edit: there is some far more in depth discussion IMO in the original thread for this movie ...
