I was going into my Senior year at high school. A fellow student, who no one knew very well attended. He was photographed in the nude and was show in "Life" magazine. He earned the nickname "Woodstock" and was an instant HS celebrity. I never knew about the concert until after it was over, but I probably would not have been lured into that event. Bethel, NY is about a five hour drive from here.

Two friends asked if I wanted to go with them. They said they were hitchhiking. I said no thanks. Of course, later, when I heard all the stories, I wished I had gone.

The next year, I did go to Atlanta Pop Festival, and it was great. Saw lots of great bands including Mountain, Rare Earth, BB King, and Jimi Hendrix. About four months later, Hendrix was dead. Glad I got to see him play..............

I wish I could have been there...unfortunately, I wasn't even thought of yet at the time.

I bet George was one of the guys on the mudslide out there.;)

The mud was extremely slick.Walking up a hill was a challenge,, human chains were formed to assist people.I think that the evening was my favorite time,it was like a huge city of love. The smell of campfires,incense and the "atmosphere" just made it a special time,I still remember a beautiful "hippie" girl who was dancing at night under numerous blacklights,her body was painted with day-glo paint and as she danced she was one with the music it was one of the most beautiul peaceful experiences in my life.I just wish that I had the vocabulary to express my experience here in profound statements.It was an Experience,, you just had to be there.

Just a bit too young for that. We knew of it...heard about it and bought the album...unfortunately...don't have the LPs anymore....but a friend does...

Lots of great music....now an Ang Lee film? Don't get me wrong, Lee is a 'good' director...but he didn't come to the U.S. till 1979, and is about my age so he would, also have been just a little young to have attended.

Personally I expected to see some American Director about the appropriate age...do Woodstock? No disrespect to Ang Lee...in any sense....it just doesn't feel right.

I wasn't born till 5 years after, but I did work very hard last year designing the Museum at Bethel Woods. It is a very fun exhibit with very experimental graphic techniques (printing on spherical surfaces) and multitouch computer interactives (before CNN had their map).

The content will move you; the AV presentations are powerful and impressive.
If you get a chance I highly encourage everyone to go check it out......

A year or 2 young for Woodstock but did make it to Watkins Glen...and its a show I still kinda remember..5 hours of the Dead....Allmans and The Band each with a 4 hour set......aaahhhh the good ole days..................

I went with my friend in a VW Camper bus. As we were driving on Friday from MA on the MA Pike onto the NY Pike we noticed many cars. As we got to the exit to go North to Woodstock we couldn't even get off the exit. We plained a different course and continued to ride West about 100 miles on the NY Pike. We then road about 100 miles North then 100 miles east like we were coming from Montreal. We saw no traffic and got within a mile of the concert late Friday night. I was raining big time so we hit the bed never thinking the concert was still going.

Saturday morning there was rain and mud everywhere and we walked to the stage. There was no music and mud everywhere. There were people nude with card tables selling any drug possible. There were **** Angles riding in single file in the mud looking mean . There were naked mowen swiming and having fun. There were no cops. We had food for a week and wanted to meet some women for fun and to listen to some music. We hung around for about an hour and never saw any sign of music starting. We didn't want to sit in mud.

My friend who had colitis started to feel bad/sick. There were no medical tents that we saw and he started to panic. If he got sick he could dehydrate and die is a short time. He would just **** water for hours. He had been to the hospital for this condition and it was very serious. Emotions also play into his colitis.

Long story short we left.

I should have taken the food and tent and stayed. My mistake.

If only they had started to play some music we would have had a great time.

My buds and I graduated H.S. that year. 'Keith' wanted to go to it, partly because it promised an awesome lineup, also because he was going to attend college in Boston anyhow, and could just drive up from there. He was providing his mom's car, but he said the other 3 of us would be on our own after the festival, to hitch back home. That made us nervous.
The other problem was, our town was a good 15-1600 miles from Woodstock, but only 90 miles from Dallas, which was hosting the Lewisville Pop out by the race track, a week or 2 after.

So we went there and had a blast. No mud. Triple-digit temperatures. Pretty well organized, even Wavy Gravy and that lot of freaks providing 'whatever'. Lots of great bands, including some that had played at Woodstock and alot of blues players that weren't at Woodstock. Maybe not quite the all-star talent Woodstock had, but pretty damn smokin'.
We even ran into a kid we'd grown up with that had moved from our town to Dallas a few years before. Estimates of 250-400,000 kids there.
