SolidSqual. That is one awesome smallie! What did you get him on; clouser, deciever; crease fly, etc? I love catching smallies. Nice largemouth there also Nikolas.

If any of all y'all ever make it to the North Ga, Western NC, Eastern TN area, drop me a PM. I am a fly fishing guide for trout. We have some wonderful trophy streams also if y'all are looking for trophy trout. I don't just fly fish for trout, but any other fish that swims in creeks, rivers, lakes, ponds, and oceans. I also use spinning and casting gear. I just love to fish period.

SolidSqual one species of fish I think you would find especially interesting is the Shoal Bass. It's a subspecies of largemouth and is found only in the Chattahoochee/Appallachacola drainage system in Georgia and Florida. It loves faster moving water and rocky bottoms much like a smallie. It fights very similiar to smallmouth also. We call them green trout around here. You start to find them in the rivers just where the water is a little too warm year round to support trout. Typically I use a 6 or 7 weight. They love White Sneaky Petes, Pencil Poppers, Crease Flies, and other top water flies in the warmer months. In the cooler months I usually use a sinktip or full intermediate sinking line with crawfish patterns, Decievers; Clousers, Wolly Boogers; Muddler Minnows, Conehead Sculpins, etc. It is not unusal to catch one in the 6-7 pound range at least once every few months. I wade and float for them also. They are a lot of fun.

My current job assignment with my fulltime job ( I am a part-time guide, full-time Geologist) has me located on coastal Southeast GA. I have a flats boat here and fly fish for reds, seatrout, tarpon, ladyfish, and just about anything else that will bite. If any of y'all are in the area, drop me a line and we'll go fish.

Lighthouse1, My mom is originally from the Morehead City, NC area. I grew up going surf-fishing there on Cape Carteret, Cape Lookout, Bear Island, Radio Island, and Topsail Island. I have many fond memories of catching spots, bluefish, pompano, and flounder there out of the surf.

Dawg, we need to get a fishing trip together...I think a bunch of local polkies in GA and NC love to fish. My wife has family in Cordele and Kingsland GA, so I can drop her off with her family and fish for a few days. Let's do it before late fall and we have to deal with the leaves in the water!

That sounds great! You talked me into it! LOL. I live on St. Simons Island, about 30 minutes north on I-95 from Kingsland, so I am close to your wife's family. My work schedule with my fulltime job is going to be very busy the rest of August and September, so I probably will not get to fish much then, but it should slow down nicely in October. This is perfect actually, because this is when the reds and trout really start getting aggressive in the flats again. Just drop me a line and let me know when's good for you.

Sounds perfect. I love that area too. I'll start encouraging my wife to make the trip in October to visit her sister...and I'll just so happen to bring my fishin' gear as well.. LOL
