Hello all,

I am new to this forum. I have recently re-discover my audio preferences. For the last 10 years or so I have been listening to HT in a box, and miss my traditional 2 channel audio. So, i am pulling stuff out of storage, and here is my dilema: I can get a hold of prestine shape set of either RTA-8TL and RTA-11T(not the TL). I have in storage my older separates, which are going to be running either of the 2 speakers above. Here are the components i have.
1) Adcom GFA-545ii
2) Adcom GTP-450 pre/tunner
3) Adcom GCD-600 CD changer
4) Adcom GFS-3 speaker selector
5) Adcom ACE-515 AC enhancer

I have sold my old maggies so I have no speakers. Also, one of my fav speakes of all times were the SDA-1c I had when i had all my adcom stuff hooked up, and boy that was a mistake.

So I need some advise deceiding between the 2 sets of speakers above, whith the above components.

Thanks,

Carlos

I agree on the 11t's, however you might be able to score some SDA's if you are patient and willing to drive a bit to pick them up.They come up for sale quite often in the northwest

How about these? They are close to me and are about 600 bucks. Is that a fair price?

    Pass and no.

If you can read a schematic and solder, you can convert a RTA-11T to TL.

Ok, hate to perhaps bring this here, but I really need advised. I just listen to RTA 11T and they sound great, nite and day vs. RTA 8TL. Now here is my new curve ball: a coworker has Klipsch KG 5.2 and KG 4.5. I am going over tonight to check them out. Any comments? Thanks

I'd have to contest a bit. Offer the seller $300-400 depending on condition (if they're not far, take a look before you buy). If he accepts, you're golden. Those are rather rare--signature edition SDA-1's.

they are NOT signature editions... you need to step back and STFU as you have no clue about what you speak. Cayovelez... ignore every piece of advice Bob has given. He does not know how to tie his shoes...

SDA-1's are worth maybe 350 max, but for that they need to be perfect.

SDA-1's are worth maybe 350 max, but for that they need to be perfect.

Point One:  Take a look at what this poster's saying and evaluate. I'm not going to use the same salty language, but my professional evaluation is he's just asking to be banned. We'll see about it later, ne?

Point Two: Sorry, I may have mis-ID'd a bit. I know why that cover is there (to block two ports) and all that, but I'd still suggest asking for lower and making an offer. Either way, SDA-1's are good speakers, if you can place them well enough.

Point Three: What a pair of speakers is worth is based on the buyer's preferences. To the right person, a pair of original SDA-1's may be worth $400-500 in good condition. Likewise, opinions on tweeters vary wildly. I wish it was as easy as having four cabinets--Peerless, SL1k, SL2k, and SL3k--and figuring out what sound you like best. It's a bit more difficult than that now.

Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

I ammended my comment as it was a bit over the top, I agree. That said it seems all everyone has done today is to pick up behind him and correct his errors and missinformation. I stand by the part about telling him to shut up and get his learn on before he feeds the wrong information to someone that may believe he knows what he is talking about.... I have appologized to him off forum for my comments being over the top.

I understand, but the guy with the SDA-1's is not willing to go much lower. However, I have this opportunity to get to listen to a Klipsch KG 5.2 and Kg 4.5. Any comments on that angle? So, far the 11T's are on top of my list. Should I consider either of those 2 sets of klipsch? Maybe if the sda-1's were cheaper, but they are not. And I need to buy some speakers very soon.
    Thanks

nooshinjohn, so thanks for the SDA 1. They look awesome. Yes I looked at those SDA-SRS, but with my set up(adcom stuff I mentioned above) I though the SDA-SRS were too much for my GFA-545ii. Now the SDA 1 are a very good option I overlooked. Any comments on the klipsch?
    Thanks nooshinjohn,

I think the knowledge base for Klipsch is very limited (compared to what we know about Polk). I'd say, you might have better luck with info on the Klip's from other sources). I think other John has given you a good lead there with the 1-Cs. I have the 1A's, and think they're pretty bitchin, but then again, I have never heard the 1-C's in person... and as such, cannot attest to one being better than the other... Although many on the forum seem to greatly prefer the 1-C's due to the better tweeter design.

To each his own. I say give those Klip's a listen and see if you like them enough for the price offered.

Those are SDA-1c's by the way... and I can say that Klipsch was a speaker I was pretty passionate about when I began looking into building my setup back in the day. For me and most here however, I found polk to have always been a better speaker for my money than just about anything else. my vote would be for the RTA's over the Klipsch. And if you could get those 1c's for a bargain... so much the better. I also feel that your Adcome would perhaps be a bit challenged by the big SDA's, I do feel it could get the job done.
