Put on one of my favorite Steps Ahead (NYC) cd's tonight and the left side high frequencies were gone:eek:!!!!?????:eek:

Damn!

My fairly new Polk Direct refurb LSi9's!

Damn! Sh#t! F#@K!

They are hooked up to a Sony CD and a Nak CA-5 powered by a Parasound A23.

No problem, I thought, just swap out the tweeter with one from the LSi7's from the office! Yeah! That's it! That will get me through the weekend until Polk opens!

Tested the tweeter in the 7's, swapped, and:

Damn! ****! F#@K!

No change. Hmmmm.......

My head started spinning  (Where are the boxes? Polk service is closed for the weekend! Should I drive to San Diego on Monday?):(

Out of desperation I pulled the crossover and inspected things, connections seemed ok, but wait, the top negative binding post seemed to be out of position! I carefully rotated the center of the post to normal position, tightened, inspected all connections and eased the crossover back into place.

Reconnected left channel and................YES!!!! It works!!!!!!!

Ok I'm done.:D

Think of the bright side - now you know what the crossover looks like. There will be no surprises when you decide to upgrade it. :D

When you first mentioned it - I thought for sure the resistor in the tweeter circuit had removed itself from the crossover. (have heard of it happening 3-4 times and seen it happen once)

Glad you got it sorted though - good job.
