Bob Dylan, it is said, introduced the Beatles to marijuana. For that alone, he would have to be near the top of the pantheon of modern music.
(not sure who got 'em on to acid)

EDIT: In all seriousness, Dylan is a fellow who has honed his inscrutability to an art form in and of itself.

I wonder whether his ID would say "Dylan" or "Zimmerman"?

I think his ID would say "Bob Grand" :D:D

I wouldn't expect every person in the US to know who Bob Dylan is ... even those that do know of him or are the casual fan, how many would recognize him talking down the street?

How could you not recognize a guy that looks more and more like Salvador Dali every day?

Perhaps not by sight alone but when asked he replys with Bob Dylan to two seperate officers and informs them he is in town doing a concert. Of course maybe im just like George old and expect others to recognize the name and or face. Odds are the same officers wouldndt have a clue who Salvadore Dali was either.

Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

Many good songwriters. Dylan is up there. According to Kris Kristopherson and the late Steve Goodman, two great songwriters themselves, John Prine is the greatest. Whenever I listen to Prine his words bring a smile to my face. Despite health problems, his light is still shining and he is still touring. If he is ever in your town try to see him. You will be glad yo did. :D Nice videos on youtube also.

That would be interesting considering they honed their chops in some of the nastiest clubs in Hamburg, Germany.

The story goes that they were, as were many British youth at the time, pill-poppers pre-Dylan. Dylan introduced them to Cannabis... and the rest is history.

I cannot verify any of the above, but I read it in a book, not on the Internet, so it may be true.

Actually Bob Dylan was there for the sole purpose of meeting and playing with the Beatles. They'd always been great admirers of each others work, and scheduled to meet up and make some music together.

Bob Dylan decided to bring some of his best with...and shortly there after the Beatles hit the peak of their career.

Or so the tale goes anyway.

Oh, yeah, that one's absolutely true! It happened to the step-brother of my grandfather's friend's niece's nephew's cousin's friend. Absolutely true.
