I'll keep a CLOSE eye on the receiver you have cnh

One more note...that unit does not have much in the way of video upconversion for SDTV....but it will boost all your signals to 480p so that they can be, at least displayed, on a NEW HDTV that cannot handle 480i...and many sets fall into that category.
So it at least allows you to switch all your sources through the HDMI OUT on the Denon.

I have a Samsung LNa52850 TV that is 1080p. Will this receiver have any problems upconverting? (Only going to use HD TV, Blu Ray player for upscaling) And maybe perhaps upscaling my nintendo wii to 480pSamsung LN52A850 (52" 1080P LCD TV) | RTi A9's (Fronts) | Csi A6(Center) | FXi A6 (Rear Surrounds) | SVS PB12-NSD (Sub) | Oppo BDP-103 | Panamax M5300-PM

It should pass through your HD signals UNTOUCHED!
And, probably, have no problem de-interlacing to 480p.

I'm open to any other suggestions too. Doesn't have to have HDMI inputs, but if it's a great receiver for upscaling and sound, then maybe. But my budget is tight.

Depends on if the brite sound comes from the pre-amp or the amp section of your Yamaha. I have heard that brite term before as well, but I did not think the more modern Yamaha's were that brite personally....
Anyway - if you want another AVR that is more laid back to match with brite speakers, I would recommend NAD or Harmon Kardon. Both would mate pretty well to your RTi's. I will leave the need for an external amp up to you.....

Thanks! I do have a Emotiva XPA-5 as an external amp, but it is not hooked up yet. I gotta wait for my SC Interconnects to come in the mail. So I'm hoping that might get rid of the "brightness". I do like how the Denon's look though.Samsung LN52A850 (52" 1080P LCD TV) | RTi A9's (Fronts) | Csi A6(Center) | FXi A6 (Rear Surrounds) | SVS PB12-NSD (Sub) | Oppo BDP-103 | Panamax M5300-PM

Hopefully the cables help you out...
I'm going to hedge a guess that the Emo is even less laid back than the Yamaha...I don't read the newsssspaperssss because dey aaaallllllllll...... have ugly print.

H/Ks are also a great option...you can get a newer model that will have more HDMI and upconversion.
But the above post doesn't make a lot of sense since MOST receivers upconvert through HDMI-outs and for 1080p that's about the only way it can be done! So no other receiver will do you? One without ANY HDMI won't work for you!
You also don't seem to be grasping the fact that your HDTV will scale all digital video sources to its NATIVE resolution which is 1080p making upconversion a moot point!
Nads are also good but I haven't heard one in a while? H/Ks are a bit warmer than Denons
For price to feature set Onkyos are pretty good too...look at the 706 or higher.
Hope this helps...your TV is equipped with most of what you're worried about finding in an AVR for video?

I don't know much. . I just don't want to run into any trouble when I'm switching HDMI sources.
EDIT: Sorry about the confusion about the above post: Pretty much what I'm saying is that, I don't necessarily need an HDMI receiver. The Yamaha receiver I have right now is great, and I would like a similar one like it, but a different brand to avoid the "brightness". BUT if there's a great HDMI receiver that can be grabbed for cheap, then I'll consider.Samsung LN52A850 (52" 1080P LCD TV) | RTi A9's (Fronts) | Csi A6(Center) | FXi A6 (Rear Surrounds) | SVS PB12-NSD (Sub) | Oppo BDP-103 | Panamax M5300-PM

If it's too bright you could always just disconnect the tweeters.
Just kidding!!
What model Yamaha are you running, and does your receiver have any frequency contouring controls? Freddy was over the other day, and mentioned that it's a high end model, but a bit older. I'm running a Pioneer elite, and the ability to raise and lower the output at certain frequencies on each speaker is really helpful. I would also say the Pioneers sound is very neutral."They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety."

Lol...Christopher just covered what I got at the other day. If the brightness isn't too high and something easily tamed then I'd suggest lowering that freq. just a tad. Never "boost" or enhance any of that sound though as that would lead to an artificial sound that in turn can lead to distortion at higher levels.Truck setup

I went from a Yamaha V-661 to a Denon 1909, to an Onkyo 806, to a Denon 2809. I love my 2809! It simply blows the doors off of my old V-661 in every category. I am running an XPA-3 in my setup along with some other amps, and using it to power a set of RTi-12s. This set-up is not overly bright at all. I also loved the Denon 1909. I would have stuck with it if it had preouts. If you can get a good deal on a 2809, jump on it. It's an outstanding AVR and very good preamp in my opinion. It also works very well with XPA series amps. The 2809 would be a HUGE improvement over the Yamaha IMHO.
Having said all this, I would still give the Emotiva a try along with your current Yamaha. It may not be any less bright, but then agian it may. Regardless you'll never know unless you try. Let us know what you find. -
Thanks Dawgfish,
I'll try and hook up my Emotiva as soon as I can. I just have no room to put it! I did although get my SC Interconnects in yesterday!

Marantz receivers are noted for their warm tonal balance and are well regarded. I believe they're now a sister company to Denon. Very well made, affordable, and built like tanks.

The problem is the speakers. Try something different.
