Grados Play Again

I while back my beloved Grado SR80s were damaged when I used them to mix sound:(. One side went open circuit. It turns out that the mixing board has some DC riding on the headphone output.
After months of listening with my old Koss Pro/4X Plus headphones I finally had an opportunity to pick up another SR80 also with a bad can to be an organ donor. The transplant was a success. I knew I liked the Grados over the Koss but I had forgotten just how much. These things are sweet.
I guess we all have our opinions on such things and Grados are not for everyone. I don't recommend them for doing sound mix as they don't isolate much from external sounds. Also, be careful plugging into unknown jacks.

I just have SR60s, but I agree.
I'm getting old and hard-of hearing (AARP-eligible last month), but I can pick out things with the Grados (especially those pesky high frequencies) that I can't hear through my Monitor 7Bs.
Plus, I still use a Grado phono cartridge, so I have the whole retro thing going on! -
I've had a lot of cans through the place, including sr125's that my son still uses,
and the elusive HF1's. Not a bad headphone, just not very comfortable.
I almost jumped in on the HF2 bandwagon (head-fi memeber purchase only).
They seem to be getting rave reviews. I currently use Senns and Stax.
It's nice to switch off between headphones and speakers once in a while.
IF any of you ever want to know what headphones are all about, go to
a head-fi meet. You can learn a lot about them in a couple of hours.
Some of those guys are hard core at a level that's hard to imagine.
And lot's of tube amps. I had a chance to listem to some of Pete Millett's
personal amps. That was a real treat.
I'm happy that you were able to get them repaired. It's hard not to have your
favorite cans handy."The legitimate powers of government extend to such acts only as are injurious to others. But it does me no injury for my neighbour to say there are twenty gods, or no god. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg." --Thomas Jefferson -
My Mom loves music but all she ever had was your typical little boom box or radio. A few years ago for her birthday I got her a decent portable cd player and some Grados. She couldn't believe how good the music sounded. It was kinda cool to help your mother get more from her music, especially since that's where I got my music interest from.2 channel
