Hello,
I'm afraid I've not had the pleasure of hearing the Raysonic, but I've been enjoying my Doge 6 CD player, from Pacific Valve. It seems to sound the closest, I've heard, to a very good turntable or open reel recording.

What is wrong with the Raysonic CD 168? I rolled some JAN NOS 6922s into mine and sounds wonderful.

I guess I am wondering if there is anything better with tubes? The CD168 is fantastic but I am looking for more resolution. I was thinking SACDs but all I find are classical music.

Have you tried rollin' in some different tubes?

I've tried some NOS tubes but only ones around $30 or $50 per tube, none of the more expensive ones.

Maybe you need to think about a solid state CDP.2 channel - Willsenton R8 tube integrated, Holo Audio Spring 3 KTE DAC, audio optimized NUC7i5, Windows 10 Pro/JRiver MC29/Fidelizer Plus 8.7 w/LPS and external SSD drive, PS Audio PerfectWave P3 regenerator, KEF R3 speakers, Rythmik F12SE subwoofer, Audioquest Diamond USB cable, Gabriel Gold IC's, Morrow Audio SP5 speaker cables. Computer - Windows 10/JRiver, Schiit Magni 3+/Modi 3+, Fostex PMO.4n monitors, Sennheiser HD600 headphones -
Ayon CD-1. Quite possibly one of the best CD players (solid state, tube or otherwise) I've heard. And I've spent a great deal of time with other players near or more then it's price point.

Ken,
I am happy to see you posting. Keep it up!!!! You are the one who started me down this rabbit hole. I joined the forum after a call to Polk customer service and its been true love ever since.
Thanks,

Smooth solid state, Marantz SA-15S2, or for a little more resolution the SA-11."He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. And when you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you." Friedrich Nietzsche

Hello Drew,
I'm glad the Forum has been helpful, I've always thought of it as a way to help expand the interest in good quality sound reproduction. I got started reading Hi Fidelity and Stereo Review magazines and then Audio. I subscribed to Audio Amateur in 1972 for a way to learn about how things were built and modified. I'm not so sure magazines play such a large part in audio education any more. Maybe they do and I'm not aware of which ones they are. There seem to be some British publications that are pretty informative. So, this Forum and others like it seem to have filled in some gaps. When it's on its best behavior readers can learn a great deal about how to put together a system and determine what they're hearing and how to improve it.
Take care, Ken
