Hollywood is really reaching deep into the barrel....

Remake of "Red Dawn" with Connor Cruise
Tom Cruise's son Connor is set to star in a remake of the 1984 action war drama Red Dawn, according to reports.

The 14-year-old will play Daryl, the youngest in the group of high school students who wage war against foreign invaders, the Hollywood Reporter said.

The original film helped launch the Hollywood careers of its stars Patrick Swayze and Charlie Sheen.

Filming is due to begin in Detroit next month and is scheduled to be released in September 2010.

Connor Cruise, who was adopted by Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, made his big screen debut last year as the young Will Smith character in drama Seven Pounds.

He will join other cast members including former Home and Away stars Chris Hemsworth as leader Jed Eckert and Isabel Lucas as cheerleader Erica who has to be rescued from an internment camp.

The cast are reportedly heading off in a few weeks for military training in preparation for the film at an undisclosed location.

Unlike the original film, which was released towards the end of the Cold War, the reversion will see the group of teens, who become known as the Wolverines, invaded by Chinese and Russian troops.

The concept of the movie back then was good but today I think it will flop.

I read an article interviewing a retired Soviet general and he stated that they never had an invasion plan for the US. With an armed population and the military force we have they would never try to invade. Hit us with nukes yes but invade no.

The concept is as preposterous now as it was in 1984. I'm waiting for a Yentl re-make with Barbara Streisand playing a man again.

I guess you could make it realistic/sellable a few different ways. Instead of Russian soldiers it could be immigrant landscapers that invade. Or if you want to keep it the Russians, a good idea for a movie is to have them attack California, which is generally construed here to be America's "soft underbelly". They get a foothold and make some advances inland, threatening the place you put celebrity hand and footprints in cement, In N Out Burger, and Las Vegas. Then all the rednecks from around the rest of the country mobilize and ride to the rescue in American made pick-ups and SUV's.

    LOL!
    In N Out Burger

    Blasphemy, Mr. Grand! :)

One burger joint that continues to re-define the concept of "Eating Out" and "Fast Food" in one sentence... (YMMV)
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

Those in "the know" mobilize when they hear the "In N" part. Makes a great plug for the chain. Get them to kick in a little and pay for some movie.

Of course its foolish, but hey, it's just a movie. The concept of someone putting on an armored suit and calling himself Iron Man is a little far fetched as well but we raved about the movie. You guys know what Im getting at right?

I must've missed that epic, I don't remember raving about it. I have many, many other things I would rave about before that anyway.

LOL....I digress......not really directed at any 1 individual, I guess "raving" may have been a bit strong, but most people really liked it.

I like George's idea of having all the illegal Mexican yard workers revolt and turn into a sort of organized takeover force working from the inside.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

As I'm clicking through channels when there is nothing on (which is almost always the case), Red Dawn is one of those moives I tend to stop on and watch the rest of it.

There are a some movies that fall into that "always watch no matter how many times I've seen it" category. Red Dawn, Ferris Bueller, War Games, Cool Hand Luke, Animal House, Jeremiah Johnson...to name a few.

I doubt I would watch a remake. It just wouldn't be the same.

Sounds lame. I wonder...since there is such a lack of creativity in Hollywood today and all these old, marginal movies get re-made, have there been any movies actually re-made twice? There must be at least one.....

Night of the Living Dead has been remade twice - once in 1990 and once in 2006.
I never had it like this where I grew up. But I send my kids here because the fact is you go to one of the best schools in the country: Rushmore. Now, for some of you it doesn't matter. You were born rich and you're going to stay rich. But here's my advice to the rest of you: Take dead aim on the rich boys. Get them in the crosshairs and take them down. Just remember, they can buy anything but they can't buy backbone. Don't let them forget it. Thank you.Herman Blume - Rushmore

Quite a few actually. Sweeny Todd is the latest that comes to mind. "The King and I", "Ten Little Indians/Then There Were None", "The Hunchback of Notre Dame", "King Kong"...and I'm sure there are many more.
