Got kicked off the track on thursday

Well, my buddy who just got out of the Marines and i went to the drag strip this past thursday. We just took my daily driver out there with the intention of watching. But, we got in for free because he's still considered active military.

So, for **** and giggles, i ran the DD. I only got two runs in.

First run, i shut it down at the 1/8th mile because i got a nasty boost spike in 3rd gear and didn't want to blow my pistons out. (my fault, had the gain on the EBC set wrong.)

Fixed it, ran again.

13.12 @ 116mph.

Yep. Got kicked off the track. Didn't think to bring a helmet. :p Aaaannnddd.... apparently my car is a trap speed ****. Crappy Nexen tires + 300+wtq + 2600lb car = lack of traction. :D

Oh well. At least fielding all the questions of "WTF is THAT?!?!?" was pretty fun afterwards. "It's a 1990 MX6." "I thought MX6s were those curvy chick cars?" :D

Anyone else hit the strip from time to time here?
I don't read the newsssspaperssss because dey aaaallllllllll...... have ugly print.

Yep. Most tracks get pretty worried about running that fast without a helmet.

I love going to the track, watching all the mean cars launching down the strip. Especially if my friend's running. I've never had anything worth running before, but the last time I went I ran my stock Mazda3 anyways. It was a blast!

My best run was also my first, at 11.161...and, yes, this was an 1/8th mile track. So, very slow. But still very fun. I went for three more passes, and decided to work on reaction time since I couldn't actually hang with anything there. My first reaction time, for the first time ever out on a dragstrip, was .689. For the next three passes I had reaction times of .251, .481, and .331. So, I did get a little bit better.

Can't wait to get a car that'll actually do the 1/8th in less than 10!

Around here, you need a helmet regardless of what kind of times you run.

My old 99 Regal GS ran 13.5's @ 100mph. My brother now owns it and I still get to blast around in it once in a while. My 98 C5 ran 11.62 @ 114, 1.5 60' with stock heads and cam, just bolt ons. Then a 11.0 @ 120, 1.49 60' with heads and cam on a 50 degree night. I then added a new intake manifold and ran a 11.1 @ 119 on a 80 degree day. I need to have the computer reflashed, it's running like crap, then maybe I'll take it back out to the track on a cool day for a high 10. I recently aquired a 09 GTI, when the warrantee is up I'll throw some mods on it and maybe hit the track.

The local track here requires a helmet for anything under 13s, jacket is needed if you have any power-adders ie. Turbo, nitrous, SC. I've ran my 07 350z, 05 SRT-4 and my current drag **** 07 Suzuki GSX-R which I'm waiting to get some new tires for and install a sproket set and chain.

    Best times:
    350z with intake/exhaust: 14.2
SRT-4 with Mopar stage one kit, exhaust/intake, Manual boost controller, soild engine mounts and drags: 13.5
Gixxer: 12.14 but my trap was 118mph...still learning how to launch it, lol. The sproket kit will help a lot.

I'm going to run my Nissan Titan now that I got a Superchips programmer for it.:D

This was at 4500ft at SIR in Tucson.

I had a '69 Cougar in the early '80's. 351 Windsor but very fast. Great in a straight line, but a little scary when the road got curvey. I sowed a lot of wild oats with that car. I miss mine too.

I wasn't expecting to get quite that low, to be honest. I figured it would be a 110+ trap, but i wasn't expecting it to claw down the track quite that well.

The first three gears on the street just go up in smoke and the car doesn't really go anywhere, so i was expecting about the same once i got out of the main prep area of the track.

Oh well. Now i know. Next time i go back with a helmet and some more boost. :D

My friend has a 475hp+ SRT-4 and runs a gameboy advanced loaded with a program that allows him to adjust the boost for each gear among other things. Still has wheelspin but not nearly as bad.

Got that right! I spun mine into a corn field while it was raining on a curvy road....scared the hell outta me. no damage to the car just took out a few stalks of corn...:D

I run a Greddy Profec B Spec II boost controller. I wasn't too worried about boost per gear since it's really just my DD, but i really wanted the overboost warning/protection that this EBC offers.

I could probably fix a lot of my wheelspin issues by running a bigger turbo... right now i'm hitting full spool by 2500rpms, and it's not all that small. It's a 50trim, but the truck-like characteristics of this motor make it a spooling monster.

If they handled anything like the GTI I would still have one or the other. Even with wider wheels and tires, Koni adjustable struts, larger sway bars, stiffer body bushings, lowering springs, and strut tower braces, it's still not even close.

Vararam intake, LS6 intake manifold, tune, Kooks headers with an offroad X pipe, B&B PRT exhaust, Yank SS4000 torque converter, 3.73 rear, CCW Drag package, no front sway bar, larger rear sway bar with poly bushings, and probably a few small things I'm forgetting. The aftermarket torque converter yielded the largest gain, probably 5-7 tenths.

Ahh, gotcha. Fairly substantial upgrade list. So, now that you've got a good bit more done under the hood, got any more long term plans for it?

After a tune, nope. I'll probably sell it and buy something else. Something older so I don't have to worry about emissions.
