Need advice.

About an hour ago I severly twisted my ankle while walking in the very rugged hillside woods next to my home. I managed to make it out of there to the house without **** it up to much more. As soon as I got home I started drinking beer. (I am a firm believer in getting the meds started as quickly as posssible.) I now have this sissy ankle elevated and iced. Now for the question.

My ice maker is not working and my limited ice supply is going fast. Do I take ice from the beer cooler or just let my injury swell? I'm afraid the beer will get warm and lose some of its medical value. On the other hand (or foot in this case) the stupid ankle is really looking nasty even with ice on it. I can put the beer in the fridge but I really want to keep the cooler close to me. Mrs 6pak is going to bring me more beer and ice but has some business meeting so will not be here for several hours.

Beer or ankle. Which one gets the ice?

I was going to check with webmd about this but thought I would get better advice here.

I hear you on the keeping the beer cold, how about just drinking it faster?

Isn't supposed be a combintation of ICE, and then Heat, about 20 minutes of each, 20 minutes apart from each other?

You have TWO ankles, don't worry about the one TOO much.

    Cheers,

My medical opinion... frozen peas on the ankle, ice on the beer. Or drink faster...

    Thanks guys.

Drink faster, drink to excess. Seems like good sound medical advice to me.

    Dylan.

Now that is a good thought. I hate peas so now I at last have a use for frozen peas.

    Russ.

Your right about the two ankle thing. My other ankle is pretty screwed up from previous injuries. Lucky for me I have a cane left over from those episodes. Yep some people say heat, ice, heat, ice. That is what I will do.

Seriously Joe - Ice for 24 hours then heat. Believe me with two kids playing 3 sports each and coaching one of them I have become very good friends with the orthopedic surgeon. He even offered to let one of my kids drive his Hummer one afternoon since she had helped pay for it.

    Thanks again.

I followed the drink more and faster advice. Old joe6pak has put away a 12 pak. My ankle hurts clear up to my knee and is pretty big compared to the other. Can't put any weight on it. Just think how bad off I would have been if I had not consumed the beer.

    Shack.

I was one of those kids. Four sports and always at the docs for injuries. I broke, tore, cut, pulled and twisted more parts than I want to remember. Which is good as the concussions helped me forget. Football is rough on a little guy. My dad said I was a big help when our doc went to get a new Caddy every year.

If you underestimate the severity of your injury & wind up needing an amputation, you will need something stronger than beer. Get someone to fetch you some bourbon. If everything turns out fine, you can drink boilermakers & laff about it.

    meestercleef.

You sound like you know what you are talking about. I just put in a order for several bottles of bourbon. I figure if I drink enough of that I may be able to avoid amputation.
