Pioneer has apparently stopped making their own plasmas, so these are going to become more and more rare.

Beware: The 5020 was one of the best when it came out, but that was over a year ago. The newest Panasonic models (PV10 series) are as good or better, and for less money. The problem with the non-Elite Pioneers is they don't let you choose color temp or do any tweaking of the colors. Its hard to get them to a reference quality.
The newest Panasonic models may not be quite as good in terms of absolute blackness, but they offer better color and better shadow detail, oh, and they are cheaper. -
Thanks...I was going off of how it stacked up to my TV I bought 2 years ago. I have not gone out and looked for a long time.Sunfire TGP, Sunfire Cinema Grand, Sunfire 300~2 (2), Sunfire True Sub (2),Carver ALS Platinum, Carver AL III, TFM-55, C-19, C-9, TX-8, SDA-490t, SDA-390t

Someone on another forum who seems to follow these tvs closely said in past that Pioneer was a couple years ahead of Panasonic in terms of plasma panel technology.
I also saw comments that, relative to Pioneer Kuro, Panasonic is slightly grainy.
I am no expert, so I can only convey what I have read and consistent enthusiasm of others for this hdtv at that price. -
I have the PDP-6010FD which is a 60" er and 1 year older than this TV and I find that it has an amazing picture. After I bought and watched it I have'nt looked back. If you are in the market for a 50" er, do yourself a favor and buy this TV.
BTW BB offers free shipping, but you have to pay sales tax:(

This guy was able to pick up an Elite 111FD for about $2400 earlier this year (YMMV):

While the disabling of the controls for the non-Elite Kuros is annoying (especially since it was done just for this last generation), this is still a great panel, especially at this price. A V10 is only a few hundred cheaper and only at discount to retail. IIRC, they use the same panel as the elites, just have different control options.
Seems to be more of a choose your compromise issue for a picture that is less than a kuro elite. At this price point, they both cost about the same and should both have a great picture. -

The 111FDs are supposed to be pretty hard to find now. Although it doesn't hurt to look around and ask. There seem to be deals even at local boutique shops as there are at big box retailers like BB. That is, if they still have any in stock...best to get one from a reputable source with the full warranty. -

As long as you don't need a tuner, that model's just a monitor. -

Thanks much for the info....so basicallly just go to Bing.com and search for Abe's of Maine (for example), and I will find the cashback as I am shopping via the Bing search engine. This sounds too easy....

Looks like Abe's of Maine Bing Cash Back is currently doubled (probably because of Microsoft promo).
Currently listed at 5% - 26% (I would assume 5% for such a large ticket item). -
Here is what you should be looking at. A better TV for 900 bucks after the Bing discount.

Really should be comparing apples to apples. The Pioneer that is being discussed is a 50".
Here are some current deals on the 50" PV10.

I have a Pio 5020 and a Sammy LCD 850 and I love my Pio more than anything else. The blacks are fantastic and color saturation is amazing. Obviously, I'm really partial to the Pio! DJ:)
