Hi this is my first time posting, I am a big fan of polk since i've started getting into home theatre systems. My question is I need a subwoofer for a 15x18 room. I'm also in college, so I am working on a low budget. I like to watch action movies, as well as live music. So this would be my purpose for the subwoofer. Thanks for any suggestions!

You should be able to get a Definitive Technology Prosub on ebay for that price. Energy Take 5 are also good subs.

Ok thanks for the responses. Now what would you suggest for a speaker size? 8" 10" or 12" and how much RMS. I'm trying to fill my 15x18 room

I think to fill a room that big on your budget, you're going to have to look used, and look HARD, to be brutally honest. That's a lot of space.

I'd say at least a 10", probably a 12". RMS doesn't mean a TON, so don't base everything off of that. A crap 12" with 2000w rms will still be crap.

Honestly, in your case, i'd save a bit more and shoot for a $300-$400 range.

You'll need at least a 12 inch driver to fill that room.

For $200, I'd definitely buy used. Do your homework. Keep an eye on Audiogon, CL, and of course CP. You'll find something decent for $200.

I have a dswpro 400 you can have for 250? Just an option. I am in college as well, and it filled my room that size extremely well. I go to Penn State, and I'd have to say the 400 doesn't f around. Here is the thread:

    Thanks and good luck!

I got bored so I checked out Polk's ebay store and found something good. It's the DSW PRO 500. I have the 600, which is the 12" sub instead of the 10" that the 500 series it. This sub is great.

    http://cgi.ebay.com/DSW-PRO-500-10-inch-Powered-Subwoofer_W0QQitemZ230362086522QQcmdZViewItemQQptZSpeakers_Subwoofers?hash=item35a2a67c7a&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14

Their's the link, and currently it's highest bid is $154. If you can pick this up for even below $250 I think that would be a good sub for what you're looking for under your budget.

cbj Welcome to CP. I hate blowing way past someone's budget when they ask for suggestions but I think this is a very good deal:

    http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1125016&postcount=1433

This is a small, and not too heavy but performs very good for its size. It may not be enough for your room (but would not be bad), but for someone in college I think this would be a good choice. You probably will not be in your currant location very long, maybe even move 3 or 4 times in the next few years, and this sub should hold its resale value pretty good.

who - me? my room is simallar in size and the pro 600 is doing an ok job so far- BUT - I still have every intention on demoing the svs I was originally considering. Given your budget, I would consider mdk's 400. The pro subs are a great value from what I've seen, and the remote is a nice little bonus.

Definitely should be able to get a Def Tech (used) I would think for that price.
I own 2 oldies, the PF 15's myself. Personally I love em, not terribly earth shaking but a great compliment to my HT none the less.

Now Bill..:D..I did suggest Definitive Technology and Energy first. Though for $300 more he can have a Sunfire True Sub shipped to his door. That is less than I paid for mine.

If I had the funds it would not be on ebay any more. I am bidding on something else right now and can't afford to buy both. If I don't win I might just have two Sunfire True subs in my house. :D

I have been saying for months that these will pop up from time to time at very good prices. You just have to watch and wait.

If you increase your budget a little bit you will start to get into some pretty good sounding subwoofers. I don't think $200 is going to do it if you really like bass. Save up and do some research to make sure you are getting something that will best suit your needs.

Two Mirage Omni S10s would probably do the job as well.... Buy one now, buy another later.

I ran two S8s in my HT setup in a similar size room, slightly larger area to the pressurized, actually, since the kitchen was attached, and they had no problems filling the room.

There's an Omni S8 Prestige right now on The Bay for $260 shipped.

But here's a Prestige S10. This sub is NO joke.
