The Doobie Brothers - The Captain and Me
The Doobie Brothers - Takin' It To The Streets
The Band - Rock of Ages
The Band - Northern Lights-Southern Cross

One uses an aluminum layer and the other gold. In general, the sound from gold CD's is audiophile quailty. Not so much because of the gold, although that helps, but because the mastering/remastering is done as to bring forth the best sound quality.

Technically, a regular CD and a gold CD should sound the same. However, music companies often use a gold (or gold colored) CD to symbolize a superior sounding CD. Mobile Fidelity is well-known as a company that license music from other labels and does its own mastering, then issue these titles on audiophile vinyl/CD/SACD (even cassettes).

Have to point out that hybrid SACDs always have a gold (or copper) gold on their data sides. Single-layer SACDs have the regular aluminum /silver color on their data sides.

I got the Doobie Bros SACD, Capt & Me from Music Direct.

Its not a mult-channel mix - just 2-chnl SACD and CD.

Seems a tad 'hot' to me on the mix.

VERY clean, good sonics & separation.

I tried this on my Cambridge 640c v2 and my Oppo 83 - both digital to my avrs dacs and pure direct analog only via AQ King Cobra ICs.

Anyone else have this yet? Any other observations?

i never quite understood this. but SACD being a multi channel format... why do they not release more titles in multi channel audio? 2 ch is fine, but they should also include a multi channel layer. it's like releasing CD's in mono. WHT?

You're not getting SACD playback that way.

    Understood.

What I meant is I tried both analog (CDP and BD dacs) and digital paths to my AVR (avr dacs) and either route the DB C&M sounded just a tad 'hot'.

Just wondering if there are other CP members who have this SACD and what their thoughts are.

    Cheers

Sweet Tittie!!! Man, that's my favorite album of all time. This is great! :D

I wonder if they will have the same songs as the LP, or will they condense it again, omitting "A apolitical blues" and a "Don't bogart that joint" tracks. Would it include the outtakes or the one's first issued on "Hoy-Hoy"? Either way, I'll live. I'm just curious. Any way to find out?
