Incorporating JL Car Audio into Home Theater

In my car, I'm running a set of SR6500s and 2 JL Audio 6w3v3s in the cabin. I cannot get over how fast and crisp the bass is. It doesn't hit the real real deep lows but I find big subwoofers to detract from SQ in most setups.

My question is - Would it be a good idea to run two of the w3s off two channels of my Marantz SR5003 along with two more channels pushing my LSi9s? I would build a custom enclosure to manufacturer's specs and finish with leather so it could look A okay. The room is fairly small. Is it worth a shot?

I figure it could be done for around $250.

Comments? Insults?

Thanks!

I think for $250 your money would be better spent on an HT sub....

But that's just my opinion. :)

+1, I haven't much luck in the past trying to "convert" Car Audio into HT equipment. $250 could get you a decent HT sub that will more than likely outperform the JL's. Leave the car gear in your car, just my $.02.

Car gear is not meant to be used in a building. They are built for massive handling and harsh conditions. They are not necessarily designed for the best sound quality indoors. I've tried to convert some but it's just not economical, that and it didn't sound very good at all.

Thanks everyone for the input. Maybe I'll just throw a little more cash at the project and pick up a MicroPro 1000 refurb from Polk Direct.

Youre definitely going to have to post a thread regarding that MicroPro 1k. I've had my eye on it and someone else posted a thread on it, but not too much to read from. I've heard its a real musical sub, very tight, accurate and fast. I've got a small room so let us know how big the room is that you'll be using it in and what type of content you're playing to give me/us a better idea of what we're getting from that thing :D

PS I've been suggested getting the 10"/12" version if you're going to implement it in your home theater and have a medium+ sized room.

It won't be real soon. Tuition sucks! But eventually I'll make the upgrade and post my results. I've been meaning to write a short review on my Lsi9's...

You better take your time, do your homework and save up some money. 250 for a powered sub well, you get what you pay for!

Check audiogon. There of plenty of subs in and around your price range. If you find one that's close you won't have to worry about shipping either. Definitely leave the car stuff in the car.
