Anyone tried DD-WRT hack to create client bridge access point?

I am planning of installing DD-WRT mod to flash a Linksys WRT54G2 so that I can have it sitting in my entertainment center. With more and more gears having RJ-45 connection (i.e. consoles, Processor, Bluray player, DirecTV DVR), I thought it is time to have a client bridge setup close to the center.

Has anyone did one? my only concern is to brick the AP, but hopefully I'll do enough research beforehand as to prevent this.

Any feedback?
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

Cool, I'll ping you guys if I run into problem. My primary is WRT54GS, and WRT54G2 should be here tomorrow.

    Thanks.

In essence, you are flashing your router to act like a "client bridge", to talk to the primary wireless router (that is connected to the internet through modem, dsl, etc.), and allows you to connect clients (xbox360, DVR, etc.) via wires (RJ45) to this router.

Only certain routers qualify as hackable. They will include Linksys, some Buffalo, some Intel. Basically having a linux kernel.

    google dd-wrt and their wiki.

Wouldn't that work with just one router? Unless you have more clients than the router has ports? I'm googling as you read this.

The biggest benefit for me is to be able to have secondary client bridges around the house without having to run RJ-45 wires....

It would work, if all your devices were sitting next to your router or you had your entire house hard wired and jacked up to go back to your router/switches.

If you have equipment not sitting next to your router, and you don't want to run wires (lazy, concrete slab, rental, condo, unconnected structure, guest house on your property, etc), that is where people will use a wireless bridge.

ok. Just finished installing the new WRT54G2. Flashed the firmware, it wasn't as clean as I hope for, but at the end, it works. I hooked it up to a DTV DVR HR20-700 to test it out. So far, I am able to activate On-Demand, and queue an HD movie to see how long will it takes to download one.

Question: has anyone hook up their BD players to the internet, to do BD Live interactivity? worth anything?
