Possible way to add an external Amp

I have been looking the the Velodne MiniVee Subs to add as a Pair to enrich my Bass, and I noticed they have included a Line Output in addition to the Line inputs on their subs.

Has anyone tried this?

Is there any way to change the cross-over point? The manual I read said it was at 80hz..in essense the same as I can assign in my AVR. But then the amp & speaker connected to it would only get >80hz signal.

That's meant for daisy chaining subs...not hooking up external amps.

In theory I guess it might work...but I wouldn't even bother trying personally.

I'll have to call them about that. IF I daisy-chained a second Sub to the line-out, it looks like it would not get the appropriate signal, since the line-out is being filtered to only put out signal above 80hz, at least the way I read it.

So would you just use a "y-splitter" instead?

Even if it does output the full spectrum, I would not want to use the A/D converter from a plate amp, it probably wouldn't sound good at all.

Just save up and do it the right way.

What A/D converter? It's all analog already. They intended it this way so you can use satellite speakers in a sub/sat configuration and the sub would already be crossed over at it's optimum frequency. That would make matching satellites rather hard though.

Yes, you would want a Y-splitter assuming you have a receiver or integrated amp with a bass-management system. The crossover line-in/line-out jacks on the MiniVee's are for using the subs in an environment (typically sub-sat) with a pre-amp / amplifier system that does not have a bass-management capability.

    thanks Curt..So would I use a Y-slitter then?

Dr Face :) Thanks for your input. Can you enlighten me what you talkin about with the A/D converter? Sorry, I don't understand.

I would be "branching fron the 2-channel outputs from my Preamp, that does not have Sub outputs, and only one set of outputs (B&K PT3)
What would be the "right way" to do it? Looking for Full Range connections to the Sub and the Amp & other speakers.
    Thanks

Thanks Marty, I am hoping that is a way to have the bypass loop Full Range if I can [IF I can keep this Preamp and don't have to junk it and get a different one] Do I need a AQ or eq "Y" or is the std Rat-shack gold ones okay?

Do I loose signal strength using a "Y" as opposed to looping thru the sub?
Or is there some kindof "Distribution hub" that would be better?
    Thanks everyone.

I shouldn't post before my AM coffee... Not a A/D converter, I meant speaker level to line level circuit.

I would look into a receiver with preamp outputs and an adjustable subwoofer crossover frequency. HK will probably be cheapest to have all these features and make good receivers. From there I would recommend Onkyo.

    kcoc3210,,

You mentioned that the PT3 had no sub outputs. I thought the PT3 had Mono/Sub outputs in addition to both High Pass outputs and Full Range output. Am I missing something or just not remembering the PT3 correctly?

No, Marty you are complete correct. Thanks for your input.

My PT3 does have a (1) FUll Preout, sub out (x'd at 80hz I think) a mono out (L/R together) and a High range Preout.

That is why I was alittle confused with the suggestion to buy a HK AVR...lol....sorry, that's not going to happen...At least for me.
Besides I also already have a B&K 101 that does have (2) sub preouts, so I could always try that..although the x-over pt is not changable on the earlier AVR's.

Back to 2.1: However...I was thinking about how to try and run 2 subs Full Range AND run my Fronts Full Range. Maybe it is mute, but I have been reading ppl saying they like it that way especially for music...

Besides with the "possible" daisy chaining with the MiniVee, I could Bi-amp Full Range as well....oh well...

Guess I'll just be stuck with one amp Full range.....and just "y" the sub out.

    Till I find a 'high audio' 1 to 4 splitter...hehe.
Or a reasonably priced, warm sounding Pream with MORE preouts.

    Thanks everyone.:D
