Lossless 7.1 Analog

After reading up on PCM and 7.1 lossless analog, I am interested in trying this out. I have the equipment but I'm wondering if there are any disadvantages or shortcomings of this way of getting lossless soundtracks from my BDP. Also do standard RCA cables do the job for this? Thanks.

PS-I don't have lossless decoding on my AVR so HDMI is not an option for me soundwise.

Depends on the circuitry of the BDP vs the circuitry of the receiver. Was it a high end receiver when bought?

I use the 7.1 analog outs on my Panasonic BD-80 with my Anthem AVM-30
It sounds great on high rez formats.
