Oh please thats a pretty sorry reason to place all cops in a category of distrust. Sure there are crooked cops as there are crooked clergy teachers politicans houswifes truckdrivers computer techs dentists you name it, people are people some are more honest then others period irregardless of there job.

Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D

Yeah, using these kinds of things as an excuse not to trust "cops" is like saying you don't trust your wife cuz you read about one woman cheating, or you don't trust a restaurant cuz you read about one health violation at a restaurant.
If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Many of my closest freinds are officers of the law.....and are of the highest moral fiber...they are always ready to help a fellow human being.

I'm a better person just for knowing them....

While I disagree with the OP's point, wanting non-crooked cops doesn't mean he doesn't want cops. Respect for the position doesn't necessarily translate into loving those who ABUSE the position, just like disliking those who abuse the position doesn't translate into disrespect for the position as a whole.

I was gassing up Monday morning at the Seminole Nation Plaza on I-40 on the way to Tulsa. Guy moseys over to the pump next to me to chat up his neighbor there while she's filling up.
He's going on about the 2 officers in Seminole that were gunned down over the weekend, trying to serve a warrant to some meth-head with a trailer full of weaponry, all giddy up on his 2nd Amendment and his AK-47.

I'd seen it in the news, didn't realize Seminole was 17 miles down the road from this station. Guy was going on how these were good family guys, loved in the community, etc.

I'm no cheerleader for cops, I've known some good ones and questionable ones, but that's some cold stuff for having to take out the public's trash. They don't generally make big salaries either. Neither do teachers.

Don't know what the moral is either, I'm not beating a gun-control drum, but the defendant was laughing about it in court.
Psychos like that shouldn't even have access to sharp scissors, let along automatic weapons.

I have to say that there are bad apples in every bunch, but in my life I have known more than a few officers of the law- 2 of my uncles were police where I grew up- and in my younger/stupider days I had quite a few run-ins with them on a not so friendly basis, and I must say I have NEVER met one that was "bad". I was always treated with respect and dignity, even when on the wrong end of the meeting. And I can remember at least 3 or 4 times when I really should have been carted off, but wasn't. So I have nothing but respect for them, and I really admire the job they do, for the little thanks they get, and often the little pay as well. So I hope the bad ones get what they deserve, and I think they deserve harsh treatment, because they make it much harder on the overwhelming majority of good ones. And I hope I keep on finding all the good ones :)

Crooked cops? Bah! IT's the crooked CEO's that have me steamed.
A couple of them put our whole company on the rocks. Chapter 11
and it's all for sale in pieces. The last couple should have seen jail
time and the current one is useless.

There are good and bad apples in all lines of work. When a cop good or bad pulls you out of a wreck and saves your life....you may feel differently.

I'm alive today 'cause cops showed up quickly at a motorcycle accident I was involved in back in 1984. One of the same cops later fell from grace due to some payoff operation he was involved in. To me this guy is #1. He may have made a bad choice some years down the road, however he was right there for me.

Stereotyping will go on forever it seems.

I've been exactly where the woman in this video was years ago, except no accident and No Video.

I took a wrap and had to pay money because of an over-righteous cop who thought he didn't have to say the miranda rights or say why he was arresting me ....before arresting me.He called for back up(I was really calm talking to this guy too)and 4 squad cars came 100 miles an hour to assist this man with our conversation. Can you believe this? was my thought.

There have been other brushes that I thought were unfair or TWISTED to they're favor, But that was a long time ago when you couldn't find a lawyer to go up against the LAW.

But I have always known 99.9% are good ones. I'm still thankful there's help just a 911 call away.

Caligulapolk, I do think the crooked cops should be taken away from where they make calls out with the public while wearing a badge!!!

I think it's more difficult to see cops behaving dishonestly and illegally simply for the fact that these people carry around guns with them and are the direct enforcers of the law. The police 'fight crime' mainly by presenting an image of moral righteousness and legal authority. This falls apart when you see something like this...

The straw men arguments some have purported in this thread are erroneous in the fact that they omit this detail....
