I'm close to the edge!

I know that there is probably a better order to build my system but I was too overwhelmed when I heard this sub. I am 99% locked into picking up a ML Abyss this week and need any reasons you have plus or minus on the move. It would be put to work with my Lsi9's and the onkyo 706. Thoughts anyone? right now they seemed to be priced at $700 at several place online. I'm looking at 75% music/25% HT.

Think tuffman will come in here bringing up sunfire :D But you know what? Ive heard that these subs are absolutely AMAZING for both home theater and prove to be very musical subs.

I will admit I have not done any homework on sunfire products. However, these ML's are all over the web with great reviews and they are tiny.

I was looking at the HRS series of sunfire subs, and they seem to take quite a small footprint. Even the much more expensive/powerful signature series arent very big. But since I dont see myself settling down in a huge place anytime soon I'm looking at micro pro series subs from Polk. Goodluck to you!

Btw, are svs subs (within the same price range) just as musical as the one youre looking at?

I keep hearing (especially in this forum) that svs is really a HT product, but an incredible HT product.

If you do decide to pull the trigger let me know how it works out for you! I was doing homework on a 60%/40% music/movie sub and posted a thread about it but instead ended up purchasing and building up a 2 channel setup. I would like to add the sub to my 2 channel system but hope that its powerful enough to also fill in the void Id have in my HT.

I think if music is a priority then the Abyss is a very good option when found at a good price. If your room is not too big you should see satisfactory results in HT. I am of the school that if a sub does music really good, it will not do bad with HT, just won't best the big guys that are primarily HT designs.

    Welcome to the Club!
The Martin Logan is a great choice for you at 75%music-25%HT.
But if you move to 50/50 the SVS would be a great choice.

Pulled the trigger. I'l let you know if few weeks how it went. I think it will blend well with the Lsi9's and I think it has the power to due double duty and perform in HT mode. Apphd makes sense to me, great music should equal good HT.

I opened this thread expecting another addition to the "SDA Playlist" thread --- "close to the edge!" as a classic rock tune. Sorry.

As far as kick-azz subs are concerned, I'm very happy with my Epik Valor, 15 inch sealed, very musical.

    dorouke07,

Probably a good choice. I haven't heard one yet. ML is basically a company that produces for 'music'. The reviews on their DYNAMO sub...the lower model of yours like it but don't see it as in the same CLASS as the BIG HT sub boys for HT prowess. While the Abyss is probably also great for music and will be good in a small to mid-room for HT...it won't do what that Epik above does...or any top line Velodyne, SVS or HSU, etc. for HT BLASTING.

When I think ML I usually don't think bottom end--that's not their technological strength. I think even the more expensive Def Tech and Polk subs (1200+) would have more HT chops.

Having said that, the ABYSS, does sound perfect for your uses! I just think it's over-priced for a 12" 300 watter.

I have the ultra 13 and would say yes, it's more for HT then music. It's low end is amazing and really adds to movies.
With music it in no way sucks, but it could use more punch. If you don't like car sounding bass with your music, and would rather have something smooth that blends in with the rest of your setup, then SVS would be great. But if you like that car stereo in your face bass, then you might not want svs.
