Yesterday, around 9:30. I am guessing my stereo was louder than normal although it was on its normal volume level. Anyways, to the point - I received a call at around 9:30 or so. They claimed they could hear my music, and that they had 3 children sleeping in the house and was wondering if I would turn it down. So I'm like sure........
Anyways, I have noticed how my Mom's house has began to 'loosen' up and seems to let sound waves flow more fluently(sp). It seems as if each time I make sure to see how loud the music is I hear MORE and MORE. So I guess getting any other speaker, or another subwoofer is pretty much out of the question. Oh well, besides the fact the neighbors called, I'm glad they did. Now I know my music is really loud.

Remember to protect your hearing. You are young right now and feel indestructible (I was there once), but let me tell you it sucks to be in your thirties like I am with hearing loss in the midrange frequencies. In noisy environments, parties, clubs, etc. I have a hard time understanding what other people say. This is because I didn't protect my hearing when I was younger. I'm telling you it sucks really bad.

Be sure to follow the following guidelines so that you can enjoy music for your lifetime. If your neighbors are complaining about the noise and you currently live in a house you are probably playing your music too loud! Just some advice, take it or leave it.

Four hours at 95 db is plenty enough to enjoy your system without damaging your ears.

Im not sure how loud it was playing. Yeah that is about as loud as the yamaha can play, however it sounds strained and sorda distorted. I tend to protect my ears. My friends owns drums and when I go over there he plays them in like a 20x20 room and it must register in the 110 db area. He already at 14 hears constant ringing noises in his ears. I could not imagine my system playing louder than 90. I could find my subwoofer playing in the 100's or so, considering that is the only thing the neighbors can hear. I listen to music ALL day though, so I dont know. My Dad went 10 years listening to music at 100 db with Horn Tweeters, and he isnt ALL that deaf. Thats just the time I can remember himn listening to music, that don't even count his childhood.

This neighbor is well over 80 feet away. I guess I will invest in a meter. It is on my to buy list. I will probally be surprised.

Good to hear that you are thinking about your hearing.

I have mild hearing loss in the midrange frequencies. Get tested at work every year (no changes in a while). Normally, I have no problems hearing the tv, music, etc. Just when I'm out at bars and clubs and stuff where there is a lot of background music and people are trying to talk to you.

You need to save some of that hearing for your later teens and 20's. If and when you go to college you will be out in some very noisy environments and it is NOT so cool when you are trying to talk to a good looking chick and have to keep repeating "what..what was that you said?".

Just trying to look out for you bro.

If you are not experiencing any "ringing" in your ears like your friend then that means you haven't exceeded your STEL (short term exposure limit). Hearing loss can occur without "ringing" though and that's why you have to enjoy your music but at the same time be sensible about it and watch out for yourself.

Believe me, man... protect yer ears. I'm only, what, 2 years older than you? but I know that I need to listen responsibly. If I really feel the need to feel my music, I crank it up and step outside my door (ah, the wonders of remote control). That way I can watch the pictures hanging on the outside of my bedroom wall bounce, too!

In the car, I don't turn the stereo up to earsplitting levels just to impress people like my brother did (who is now 23 and says "what" and "huh?" a lot)... if I'm gonna impress someone, i do it from standing outside the car :-).

Cars? Just get a truck and put your whole system in the bed! You can barely hear it but my are you a public nuisance! If you need to FEEEEEEEL your music then get some butkickers. Shake you up without shaking your ears apart.

By car I meant minivan... my speakers are all the way in the back and they're still damn loud. O'course, I do have the requisite tweeters spliced into the front speakers and taped to the dash :-).

Not too bad actually

All you see are the tweeters stuck to the dash and a wire running over to a crack in the dash where it disappears... It's as good as I can do 'til this summer, when I plan on replacing the front speakers and the head unit. I already replaced the back 6x9s with 3 way Blaupunkts and added the two 10" Advent subs with a 150w amp (woefully underpowered )
