My grandmother passed away a few months ago and her funeral was yesterday. I am not starting this thread for sympathy votes or for you all to say sorry and you are in my prayers. Please none of that, thanks. I have the flu so standing outside in the heat (was not that bad really) with a 102 fever just sucked. I was amazed at the amount of people that were visiting or there attending funerals. You heard guns going off every few minutes and that to me was a reminder of just how many people were being buried that day. Having to wait 2 months to bury someone makes you realize just how many people are dying. Never in my wildest dreams did I think it would take 2 months to get this painful part over with. All in all, it really made me appreciate the sacrifice our men and women of the armed forces have made. Seeing all those gravestones in one place is very humbling to say the least.

Arlington National cemetery is a very strong visual. For me even photos of Arlington and the American soldier cemeteries (or any nationality) in France invoke strong feelings of gratitude for those that sacrificed so much for me.

I work a stone's throw from the cemetery; it's very sobering to walk through...
