An audiophile

He's pushing 84, was a paratrooper in WWII, and still works every day because he enjoys it. He's going to Santa Fe next week to catch a few operas (but we don't let him do the driving anymore).
His home system is average at best, Advents, Onkyo he's had for 30 years, that sort of rig, and he really could afford something nice. Ftm, he maybe has 50 - 60% hearing at best when he's using Hearing aids, he has definitely slowed down.

Can hold an intelligent conversation about nearly any classical composer or performer, and loves hearing new contemporary stuff ( which I basically can't stand)

He's all fired up about making reservations for next Spring when a hotshot young violinist named Stephan Jackiw will be in OKC. Kid's supposed to be the next Heifetz. (I watched him on Youtube, and he is pretty good)

Never mind the good likelihood he won't be on this Earth anymore to catch it, my dad sees that glass as totally full, not half full when it comes to music. That's what I call an audiophile.

Well, I just pulled off the impossible by doing a double-blind comparison all by myself, purely by virtue of the fact that I completely and stupidly forgot what I did last. I guess that getting old does have its advantages after all :D
