Logitech Harmony One

I've been searching through the old archives, and still wasn't able to find the answer. I've heard only good things about the Harmony One, and this might be my next purchase. Maybe I'm not looking hard enough, but here's my question.
To anyone who owns this remote, and does NOT have a HDMI AVR, and have to switch sources on your TV for video. Can you program the Harmony One to switch to the right input?
For example: My Playstation 3 will be hooked up via HDMI to the TV, and optical cable to the receiver for sound. Pretend on my TV, the PS3 is on "Source 3." Can you program the remote to: Turn on the TV, switch to "Source 3," and turn on the Receiver to the CORRECT source?
Another question arises while I'm typing. Pretend you're watching a movie (PS3) and your favorite basketball/football/baseball game is on TV at the same time. Will you be able to switch back and forth using the Harmony One without shutting anything off? Is there a function that you can program to do so?
Thanks so much guys!

Just realized, I posted this in the wrong section, I meant to put it in "Electronics"Samsung LN52A850 (52" 1080P LCD TV) | RTi A9's (Fronts) | Csi A6(Center) | FXi A6 (Rear Surrounds) | SVS PB12-NSD (Sub) | Oppo BDP-103 | Panamax M5300-PM

Definitely yes to the former - I do this with my Harmony 880, and I'm sure the One does it as well. You can set a function ("Watch TV") to do as many different things as you want - change to the correct input your receiver, turn on your DVD player, change to the correct input on your TV, dim the lights.... any combination of things that have a remote control.
As for the latter, it will probably take some tweaking but I'm sure you can do it. By default the remote software will try to shut things off if you're not using them; IE when I switch from "watch a DVD" to "watch TV", it shuts my DVD player off. But everything is customizable so with a little thinking and work you should be able to get it to do what you want.If you will it, dude, it is no dream. -
Well that didn't take long.

+1 to what bobman said. I have the One and it can do just about everything that you want it to. Very easy to program and set up, perfect combo of touch screen and actual buttons.
If the macros aren't set right the first time, you can always go in and add a function (switching a source) or add an extra step if you want.
May take about 30-60 minutes to fully set up and add your components (depending on how many you have), but it's definitely worth it once you get it set.Fronts L/R: Polk Rti-a9

Another vote for yes from me. I have the 880 and that thing will do just about anything. The software is a bit "clumbsy" but it can be fine tuned to do just about anything you can imagine, in any order you choose. The Macros are great and can be fine tuned with the included software in about an hour or so from start to finish.HT Rig

Yes, I also do this with my 880 to control an AVR, dvd player, projector, tv and so on. I do agree that the software is lacking though.

Kind of a random thread to pick to spam, lol. However, I am glad it got brought back to life because my 880 died a few days ago and am now considering the Harmony One as a replacement. I am familiar with the 880, but how much different is the One? Any feeback from One owners? I know I want a Harmony, just curious if I should "upgrade" to the Harmony One, or get another 880?

Hey Jeff, I'm not familliar with the 880 but I think the one might be a decent upgrade. The included software was real easy to use and the entire setup only took me about 20 min or so.panasonic th-50pz85u

Cool, thanks junior. Will probably do a little more polling/research but it looks like the One will be the next addition to the HT.

I should be buying mine sometime this month. I keep checking Amazon.com, and the price changes every so often. I saw it at a low of $179.99. Highest I saw: $210. Average: $200.Samsung LN52A850 (52" 1080P LCD TV) | RTi A9's (Fronts) | Csi A6(Center) | FXi A6 (Rear Surrounds) | SVS PB12-NSD (Sub) | Oppo BDP-103 | Panamax M5300-PM

Cool thanks Fitty, believe it or not Best Buy online has it cheapest right now at $195. So I'll keep sniffing around. That's about $20 more than I paid for my 880 about 3 years ago so not much of a price jump there.

Actually on Best Buy, they are selling it for $179.99 but it's back ordered.
I'm going to wait maybe a month to see if the price will drop.Samsung LN52A850 (52" 1080P LCD TV) | RTi A9's (Fronts) | Csi A6(Center) | FXi A6 (Rear Surrounds) | SVS PB12-NSD (Sub) | Oppo BDP-103 | Panamax M5300-PM

Hmm, seems to be some confusion if it will actually work with the Price Match and the Bing cash back.... I'm a few months away from the upgrade, but thanks for the heads up.

you think i should get insurance on it? -
I am getting one of this, should be in tomorrow. Any quirks or issues I need to worry about?
This remote should resolve all the second guessing that happened, as to how to set the pre/pro to the proper input, when a family member trying to do something (i.e. activities), no?I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie. -
Excellent remote, having owned it for quite sometime now. Update the firmware, program it til your heart's content, and enjoy it. I run a rather complex setup ( light control with front projector), and it performs flawless. I have an IR controller in the front and the ONE will bouce the signal off my PJ screen to control PJ/lights while my IR controller signals commands to AV gear installed in the rear of the room. It is the ONE. Enjoy.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!

Frys runs sales every once in a while for $179 and seen them as low as $149 (new).
The one thing you need to ensure the users know is when you select an activity they need to keep it pointed at your equipment until everything is turned. Yes, the Harmony one a great remote. I actually returned mine to pickup the Harmony 900 instead.
It looks exactly like the ONE but has RF functionality and seems more responsive.
Also, contrary to what many have posted on the internet, the RF capabilities to date have been excellent. I works from anywhere in my house which is about 45 feet at the furthest point.
Yes you can switch between devices without turning them off. I purchased the Harmony PS3 bluetooth controller which now gives me control with the Harmony remote.
Either way, both are excellent remotes. -
So here is my question:
if I setup #1 activity: "watch DVD," and the sequence is: DVD, Pre/pro, TV
#2: "Listen to Music" and sequence is: CD, Pre/pro
when I switch from #1 to #2, would it send a "On/Off" signal to the Pre/pro even though both activities has a common Pre/pro in both?
Thanks..I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie. -

My understanding is that it will remember whether a particular component is on or off and will not turn it off it is needed for the next choice. It may get out of sync however and then you will have to bring it back to where it thinks it is.Front - Polk LSiM 705, Center - Polk LSiM 704c, Rear - Polk LSi 7

thanks, that is what I hope for. Otherwise, it would not be pretty to hear my Pre/pro goes through power-cycle for no reason.I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie. -

Exactly this, the remote is very smart. Once your in the software and are programming an activity it will ask you what is required to carry such activity. Switching from activity is simple and again the remote knows what you want on and off, what settings as it is programmed from the software that you will use to setup such activities to begin with.
Very simple to do and you can tweak until you feel it performs the way you want. I still go into mine and change things up and see what I like best. GL bro and again enjoy.Shoot the jumper.....................BALLIN.............!!!!!
