Loudest for you all? Or to break floorstanders and bookshelves?

I cranked up to 70 db and i could feel its bass. Am wondering how loud db hurts your ears? I Ask because my wife is hearing, she said 70 db is loud.

and I AM CURIOUS about youy guys. What many DB can blow your speakers? Will AMP help boost loud sound if use low DB? I think i might get what you guys are talking about when cranking up after hooking up RT800.
I am 100% BORN DEAF and No I am not kidding! :D Why am I here? My wife's hearing! :p

Unless you are seriously underpowering your speakers, you should not have to worry about cranking them. Underpowering will cause the signal to clip easier, and that will generally blow the tweeters. Most of the SPL actually comes from midbass and bass frequncies though. Your Onkyo should be okay for those speakers. I have had my receiver (VSX-1015TX) turned all the way up and it didn't damage my speakers at all. However, use caution always...I can hit 95-100 dB pretty easily, but I have hit 115-120 dB on some very bass heavy techno stuff. The Ultras were doing all of the work here...My system is calibrated at 70 dB, 85 dB is considered Dolby Reference Level and is very loud by most peoples standards.

    Try this:

    dbScale.jpg

EDIT: actually this is really too small to read, but it shows the impact of SPL on hearing as a function of frequency (essentially the Fletcher-Munson equal loudness intensity curves, it looks like... extended to high SPLs).

I should add that I don't normally listen at those very high dB. I usually listen at 70 -75 dB.

75 dbs should not affect her hearing. It's only when you listen to, let's say, above 85db more for long periods of time that it may have a negative impact on your hearing...The drawings above demonstrate that... mowing grass is a good example...as that is not really 'good' for your ears!

I ask this because I dont want to blow my tweeters. I guess less 75 DB will be ok everytime I use ps3. Was playing HAZE game and my other room walls was pounding :D
It was good thing that my windows are sound proof..

"blowing your tweeters" is all about the amount of power (and the spectrum of harmonic distortion thereof).

    mhardy has got you..

That Onkyo has loads of power for an 8 ohm speaker...you'd REALLY have to PUSH it to blow anything. It's a High Current design and you'd be hard pressed to run it to clipping with that speaker set...plus I think it would go into a 'protect' mode if you managed to do that in any case.

    You're cool..

We watched a movie one time where i though it was extremely loud. I turned on the same meter to find it was maxxed out, what it truly was, we'll never know.
In terms of audio, i truly feel sorry for the visually impaired. How can they know what they like if they cant read google?
