Frankly driving them with a Krell pre/amp I can not play alot of poorly recorded cd's (sounds really bad). I am actually thinking about wiring some lesser speakers up to play not so great recordings (Newer pop mostly). Any suggestions of good polks to get? I was thinking maybe JBL L100's or something along that line. But the L100's are very rare. I would prefer polks. Any sugestions would be great. P.S. I want good speakers that "hide" bad recordings better.

I’m not sure I understand your logic. Are you saying the sound needs to be degraded in order to make poor recordings sound better? If so I guess that is one approach.

Perhaps the problem is your DAC? Are you using a CD player, or a transport and an external DAC?

Idk it is that some recordings just sound wonderful and frankly some sound like ****. But if I play the same cd's in my car they all sound the same more or less. I thought it might be that the lsi9's are just way more detailed and clear then some other speakers that might be more colored.

I don't think that placing a separate pair of lesser quality speakers next to your Lsi is the answer. It seems to me you are comparing the sound of a good recording with the sounds of a **** recording so unless you plan on playing everything on the lesser speakers you'll still hear the good recordings as good and the **** ones as ****, just a different non lsi ****.

Having one pair of lower quality speakers, like in a car will make everything equally **** and thus less obvious because there's nothing to use as a comparison.

Can you think of any specific songs/artists?

What Krell gear are you using, what CDP are you using and what cables? A great source and a carefully tuned system can make those bad recordings listenable and make the good recordings even better.
