Caution about ABKCO SACDs - Stones, Animals, Sam Cooke, Herman's Hermits

So, there I was, at the Oakland, CA Best Buy, holding 3 Sam Cooke SACDs in my hands. I was so happy that I can finally complete my Sam Cooke SACD collection. Of course, I know what to look for with these titles to get the SACD version....the digipak packaging and the SACD logo. Cool! All 3 discs have these features.

To make a long story short, I got a redbook CD with the "Ain't That Good News" title despite the packaging being a digipak and it having a SACD logo on the back....



The disc itself doesn't have the SACD logo and the data side was silver in color instead of a gold color typical of a hybrid SACD.

So now I have to go back and try to get a refund/exchange. :realmad:

The lesson with ABKCO SACDs - Just because the packaging is a digipak and it says SACD doesn't mean you will get one.

Yea, I noticed that too when I got it but wasn't bothered. Mine was given to me with my player, sucks for the inconvenience it brought you but hope you get it exchanged!

Hmm, just looked at mine and popped it in the player. Data side on mine is gold...but everything on my package is the same as the one you've posted.

Given the quality of most Sam Cooke recordings I've heard, I really question how much of a benefit you get from the SACD mastering of them....

Does the SACD LED on the player turn on when the disk is played? If so it is SACD despite the appearance of the disk.

Ha. I knew that would be too much luck. City Hall Records? In their webpage that one appears as a CD (HDCD), not SACD.
