Unfortunately I could not help it, they came pre-installed.

Talk about barely sufficient sound.

BTW a PITA to upgrade need to replaced everything radio, sub on back everything. Good luck :)

You have a good taste in cars but Acura needs to rethink their audio systems.

I do have to say that I am not a big proponent of doing upgrades to car audio. It just does not make sense for me. I only have a 15 minute drive to and from work every day. I don't spend enough time in my car.

Though if I did put in a sound system I don't think I could hear it over the roar of my Hemi! LOL

I have a 2002 Grand Prix with a Bose system in it and I like the way it sounds. Of course I've never had anything other than the run of the mill factory stereos in any car before this so that's probably why I think it sounds so good.

Isn't Bose car stuff actually not even made by Bose? I heard somewhere they were made by Clarion and sold to Blose?

    You are correct...

Back of my stock "Bose" headunit clearly states that it's made by Clarion.

I think the sub and its amp say the same.

Yeah I dislike bose alot because they suck. They mislead rather then make decend audio products. Where I work (~1000 people) prolly 99% of them believe bose is the best audio you can buy. Plus they can not even make thier own car audio stuff lol. At least clarion is reputable. I stopped telling people bose sucks because, simply put, most people just don't care about audio quality anymore. Sad.

I guess they must source from a few places...

My Clarion speakers in my Maxima are fairly good, a little bright for me, but decent.

    The headunit sucked though.

I am quite pleased with my factory Volvo V50 Premium sound system. The HU is by Mitsubishi, Class-D amps by Alpine and speakers by Harman Industries. The later models have Dynaudio speakers. It doesn't quite measure up the the Alpine / MB Quart system I installed in my previous car but definitely decent.

That gives me an idea. Bose should adopt a new marketing strat. Just sell them out of white vans. Less overhead=more profits!

Figured as much. I kind of hoped at some point along the line there was a harness that went from the HU to the amp with line levels ...

I think I read somewhere that they used 2-ohm speakers all the way around :\

Could be, they aren't car experts. My Toyota Solara has JBL stamped on everything, but looking at the bottom of speakers in rear they are stamped Infiniti and Chrysler.

Not quite the same as Infiniti is still a Harman Group product.

Yeah, a lot of Acura's with Bose speakers have HU labeled differently. I think Panasonic did a bunch of them too.

It's not that the head units are that bad IMHO, it's in the drivers cheap cheap cheap. Replacing the drivers, the eq of the head unit to match the weakness of the drivers to the car becomes the issue. The if you replace the head unit the sub won't work, so now you're playing with weak drivers and a serious hole now.

Not fun, and to say everyone a headache really need to think replace all, I would go in without that in mind. Then because the sub is powered by an amp, to bring it past sound unit. You need a new head unit, amp(s) speakers, and maybe a sub. Think $$$, for 30 mins in the car forget it.
