Wanting to see if I should stick with looking for older Polk speakers (Monitor 10's etc..??) that would match up with the mains or try something newer. Will probably be running surrounds with an amp pushing at least 100 wpc at 8 ohms.

Any Polks Sounds good to me.Just try to match the tweeters. I have the same mains as you and also a pr. of SDA-CRS+ I plan on using some day.:rolleyes:Most people just listen to music and watch movies. I EXPERIENCE them.

5.1 or 7.1 surrounds?
-
Til more dvds come out that support 7.1, looks like 5.1 or 6.1 for now.

I have a pair of SRS2's for mains and use a sda crs with rdo 194 tweeter uprade. Works real well.

That sounds like a sweet setup Joe,you're the 2nd person to recommend those sda/crs for surrounds. I was reading that since my sdasrs2's have the pin/blade interconnect, that they are actually 8 ohm speakers??? I haven't installed my interconnect cable ,wasn't sure if it's a good idea since I'm running 5.1 now. I'm getting by just using old some Atlantic Technology 254.1 surrounds for now.

Plug in the I/C cable, without it you're not getting the SDA effect, in fact when it's connected, try disconnecting your center and see how it sounds. When they're set up right, SDAs create a "phantom" center.:)

Actually I'm running crs' for the surrounds and center channel. They really work well together. I have an extra crs with rdos' you can use for a center channel. If your interested send me a pm. I do not want to discuss it any further here, its not the place for that.

Polk65 set me up with modded M4s, M5jrs with 1/2 a CRS crossover, RTA 8Ts and CRS+ to try as surrounds for my 1Cs, they all featured matching drivers and the SL2000. I preferred the CRS+ as surrounds, though the M5jrs were stellar too. When I finally gave him back his speakers, I replaced them with 2Bs w/RDOs. They work as well as the CRS+s, but add some bass in the back. I don't have room for a CRS+ center, but the CS400i works very well and does fit. I use the IC for both the fronts and the backs.

IMO matching up your surrounds is not really needed. I have never had a set of speakers in the front that are the same brand as the back. Currently I am running a Definitive Technology center, Thiel CS 3.5's in front and Advent's in the back. Your fronts and center make the most difference. Your surrounds IMHO don't make the HT.
As long as you have a good center, fronts and sub the rears only fill in when the movie needs. As long as they are decent speakers you should be fine.Sunfire TGP, Sunfire Cinema Grand, Sunfire 300~2 (2), Sunfire True Sub (2),Carver ALS Platinum, Carver AL III, TFM-55, C-19, C-9, TX-8, SDA-490t, SDA-390t -
I'm running a CS400 for the center right now. I'll hook up the interconnect cable for the SDA's fronts and see how they sound with and without the CS400 in the mix.My room is about 25'X35'X9' with a open kitchen on the side that's about another 15X25'X9'. Yea,I know, need more watts, lol.

You could try another pair of SDA/SRS 2s. It really sounds great when all four or even 5 (if you can pull it off) of the speakers are the same. This is especially true for 5.1 MUSIC.

Another set of sda srs' would be great! if you don't want to spend the money right now i would also suggest monitor 5s or something similar. I got mine to match my 2A's and they sound awesome.

I'm already looking to get some used Polk LS50's here and probably run them with a used Adcom GFA-545 amp. Still going to look for a bigger amp for the SDA/SRS2's up front. I started out checking out for the old Polk Monitor 10's,but saw the LS50's and the reviews were good.

Hey guys, don't mean to hijack, but since the OP asked the same question I was going to, I'll just latch onto this one
I'm building a theater and I've got SDA SRS's for the mains and want to go 7.1. I've used a Boston Acoustics VR12 for the center with the SDA's and it works well. I had been using SDA1C's for the surrounds in my last theater but this time around I'm going for maximum WAF so the SDA's will going behind a false wall and I need to put the surrounds and backs into a column. I notice Polk has some in-walls that I could use for the backs and the Lsi F/X would fit into a column for the surrounds. ANyone know if these would match ok? Any other suggestions (for speakers that would fit into a column?)
Thanks!

Well look on the bright side. I've got two pairs of SDA 1C's for sale now

I think it's hillarious that half of us here would be (or are) thrilled just to have a pair of SDAs, and the other half are using them as surrounds!!
Monitors will do you good. 4s or 5s (tweeters to match your fronts) are the way to go.
About the center: I'm using the 'phantom center' approach also. I have a CS350LS that I had been using as a center but I've not been using it lately. The only tricky part about going w/o a true center is that voices can sound a little quiet when there's a lot of action going on... since most of the voices in a dvd are piped through the center channel that you now don't have, you lose their volume a little bit sometimes.~Matt
