What does everyone think about "Magnolia"?
I personally liked it. A little slow in parts, a little strange at times, but very very well acted.
I'm a big fan of Paul Thomas Anderson. Ever since "Boogie Nights".

No excuses!

I was intrigued by this movie when I saw it in the movie theater, so I decided to buy the DVD when it came out. But after watching it again, it frustrates me to sit through it all. So I gave it to Polk as a demo DVD. Just didn't like it the second time around.

... And I took it home and watched it, twice.
One friend I watched it with, hated it.
One friend (who knew I had two whole friends?), liked it.
And I... Wasn't hating it. I like the pacing and the editing. I like the very Altman-ness of it. I found it somewhat actorly and even a little well done. I'd recommend it for someone who likes that kind of eerie realism (which is someone like me).
PT Anderson did a very good job. (The documentary on the 2nd disc is very good.) He's got some talent. And, like I was saying about M. Night, when PTA finally directs his "masterpiece," it'll be really fine.
But I'll tell you this: I doubt I'd sit thru "Magnolia" again.

How about considering this one, too, as an example of "newly celebrated young director's second film":
"Requiem For A Dream"
