Should I go Bi?

I am only running a center, sub, and the left and right speakers. My receiver has a setting for Bi-amping and was going to try it.
1) What are the pro's and con's?
2) Since I'm not using the surround speakers is it even worth it?
3) Can I damage my speakers since they are only 80 watts?
4) Also I removed the gold connector on both set of plugs, is this all I need to do to the speakers?
I'm still somewhat new here, so most of this is new to me.

You could try it I suppose, but you probably won't hear an improvement. You won't damage your speakers so long as you keep the volume level reasonable. And yes, removing the jumper between the binding posts is all you need to do on the speakers.Speakers: Polk LSi15

tcrossma,
Thanks for your help. I will try. I noticed that I lost some of the settings on the Pioneer when I set it to BI-amp. I guess it can tell Im not using the rear speaker. -
TC is right, and I also agree with his comment on not noticing much of a big diff. Bi-Amping with an AVR does not double the power going to your speakers. You AVR gets it's power from one amp and the power is split up between the channels, but does not double when you Bi-Amp since you are using the same power source. IMO, it isn't worth the cost of the extra speaker wire, but feel free to try it and see what happens. Welcome to Club Polk btw.HT Rig

wutadumsn23,
Thanks, I will try it tonight. -
I have my Monitor 70's "bi-amped" from my Denon 2808 and I noticed a difference... Mostly in 2ch music, better seperation and the bottom end filled out some more.

it can be additional costs to bi-amp
but usually you gain in performance and response -
you will at least double your chances of getting some action. so yea, there is a possible improvement when you go biTV: LG 55LW5600

Most people on this forum and others have decided through trial and error that both provide minimal improvements in most systems unless you are going fully active with your bi-amping. I have done neither in my home theatre systems, but did try both in my vehicle and noticed minimal if any improvements. I also heard a car with fully active bi-amping and it sounded very nice, but we never set the car up any other way, given the quality components used, I think the system would of sounded great with a traditional setup. -

M30s are actually rated to 100 watts RMS each. It would be a bit hard to tax them. I've run them once or twice on a Denon AVR 2807 (110/channel X 2) in pure audio mode almost to clipping and they did fine!
I've bi-amped M70s with a Denon as well and couldn't hear 'any' real difference. But as soon as I brought in the Adcom 555 for 2 channel...well....that was a DIFFERENCE! BIG-time! The M70s sounded like a NEW Speaker! A formidable challenger to lower end Rti towers for 'music'! In fact, I would say the Ms have it!
