ok so ive got an onkyo p306rs pre amp with a m506rs amp and i want to hook to rockford fosgate 10's up. i know i cant just hook them straight up because the higher pitches would screw em up, or so ive been told. so i need to turn 2 channels into bass channels with a low pass filter, only problem is i dont know where or what to get. help is much appreciated :))

    Slim welcome to CP.

Sorry not familiar with anything you listed but have heard lots of good things on the Onk amp and pre. Maybe someone in the "On The Move" section down lower on the main forum page can help, since those are car subs if I'm not mistaken.

I see many car subs that are 2 ohm speakers so I'm not sure the Onk would be up to it, hopefully others can chime in.

I know there are some here that do use car subs in the home so it can be done.

A Google search turned up things like this: http://www.geekbro.com/index.cfm/hurl/page=product/itemid=714184?source=GoogleBase
Just I don't know if this is right for your application. Since it doesn't even list what the XO freq. is.

You might also want to check out some D.I.Y. forums for info.
    Good luck

    look for low pass filters
    variable that you can adjust
and decide if you want a passive set or an active

    inexpensive way are bass blockers
    found these on crutchfield

    alot of other types available.

    welcome to CP !

    Bass blockers are the opposite.

You want a low pass filter, either active or passive.

I saw someone say your subs might be 2 ohm, in which case this sounds like a bad match for the amp. I've never had an Onkyo, but I hear some of them run hot already.

Wait.... you're trying to run car subs in a home audio scenario? I probably wouldn't suggest that.
I don't read the newsssspaperssss because dey aaaallllllllll...... have ugly print.

People do that all the time in th DIY world such as myself. Chances are his drivers are 4 ohm drivers if that is the case he needs to make certain his amp is capable of handling a 4 ohm load. Second, most car audio drives do NOT make good HT subs...they are just not desinged to go low enough and require HUGE ported boxes to help with the low end extension. BUT that is not always true....for example most JL subs work great in an 3-4 cu ft emclosure and the Infinity kappa perfects are the best sounding driver I have ever heard in an DIY HT system...You need to get the parametters of your divers from the manufactures website, download WinISD and punch the specs in the program and it will tell you how big your box need to be and what size ports to use.

Another thing to remember is these car audio subs need lots of power, is your amp capible of pushing your subs as designed?

I Currently use 2 12" dayton RS315HF 4 ohm subs each in a 2.75 cu ft passive radiator eclosure in my HT system (whice are awesome by the way) powered by and Behringer EP2500 amp which is an awesome amp for HT use. For under $300 you get 1200 watts x2 into 2 ohms or 750 into 2 at 4 ohms and 500 into 8 ohms. I also used the Behringer DSP1124 feedback destroyer for it's 24 bit prgrammable EQ, before I hought my subs sounded good, they had a nasty peak around 60 hz. With the DSP1124 they sound like a pair of $2000 subs.

Parts-Express.com will every part you need to build your subs or Madisound.com

Also check out hometheatershack.com, audiouholics.com and certainly the tech pages on the Parts Express web site, lots of vey smart guys there!

    good luck!
